Is Battery Leak Possible on New Zero SR
« on: July 11, 2018, 11:15:35 AM »

2018June29, Bought 2017 discounted, new demo Zero SR.  Looks like the battery is leaking after only 1 week of light commuting.   This is most disappointing Please share if you have any ideas for me.  Pic attached.

Whatever caused that definitely didn't come from inside the battery.

Something got on your battery.... wipe it off and enjoy the ride....your bike is fine.

I agree.  That doesn't look like leakage from a battery cell. Any cell leakage would probably stay inside the sealed battery modules and if a cell was leaking your MMB would likely start throwing warning signals as a leaking cell would probably result in decreased voltage which would be detected by the bike's computer.

That looks like what happens if you either spill something in the top storage area... it runs down the battery block like that.
In anycase, no worries... the batteries liquid is more like a paste, and the whole thing is encapsulated in potting compound.... plus the bike will know about it leaking long before anything shows on the outside.

Thank you all for replying so quickly.   Relieved my panic.

Indeed the "leak" drippings seem to originate from a point just below where there are holes in the bottom of tank storage.  I haven't really stored anything there since I bought it home, but it is a demo model.   I am gonna guess something leaked from the tank while in the dealer's showroom and then when I parked in the sun at my office all this week the stuff probably melted and dripped down the sides of the battery.

Sure was a scare.  Whew..e Thank you all again for your prompt replies.  I think I am gonna like this forum as much as I like my new motorcycle!

Enjoy the ride (to be completely sure nothing else is wrong besides the battery, check it with removed saddle/tank?)
But indeed, there is a lot of checking going on continuesly by the computer, so.... nothing wrong probably.

I’ll document the link between tank storage drainage and battery case stains. I encountered it on my 2013 DS so long ago that I forgot to mention it.
