2017 DSR with Caribou (Pelican 25L) Top Case
« on: October 12, 2017, 09:20:54 AM »

I have been riding with a back pack on the zero for the last month. It has been a long time since wearing a back back commuting and I sure don't miss it. But for the time being I had to while waiting to get the rack for the DSR. Now that I have the rack it was time to install a top case to get rid of the back pack once again.
I have a Caribou luggage system on my R1150GS ADV that I also use on my Ural and my XR650L.

I can change the same cases between all. The top case can now be used as a top case on the Zero.
I had a top plate for the Givi luggage that I wasn't using. I remove the plastic male clip on the plate with a dremel so I can mount the locking plate that the Caribou luggage use. It worked out pretty well.
The case is basically a rebadged Pelican 1520 case which is 25L. Caribou makes all sorts of plate systems to adapt to any bike even if they don't have a bike specific one available. You can even use any cases you want if you buy just the plates alone. My first ride to work with it will be tomorrow morning on the Zero.

Very nice and looks good on the bike.  I have a Pelican 1620 top case on my KLR650 which my Zero FXS has replaced.  That case is huge so I haven't moved it over to my FXS because I'm thinking it would look kind of ridiculous on such a small bike.  I have one of those cheapo ebay cases on my Zero right now, but am finding that I could use more storage space, especially with the cold weather months approaching and needing to store more gear.

That is a pretty big case. Great for putting the extras in. Any issues getting on the bike with it on?? The cold weather gear definitely takes space. I leave a long sleeve shirt in the trunk and the heated vest in the tank storage. I can fit my Aerostitch in the trunk with nothing in it if I need to for off the bike. If my backpack is in there I can only fit the pants and lock the jacket to the bike for off bike stuff. Having panniers would solve that I think.

I have one of a similar size that I tried using to store two SCv2 units but it was too bulky to put in the passenger seat or elsewhere.

It should make a fine top case, although (for others' benefit) these generally are not deep enough to store a helmet.

They definitely are not deep enough for a helmet. The depth is about 7-8 inches or so. If you include the little bit at the top.
