Terve,

It's funny that until today I did not think whether there are discussion boards around this topic of ours.

So me and my buddy, seppä Ilmari forged the bike(s) by yourselves and, well, succeeded.

Let me present my baby, Cagiva el Freccia:

As far as I know, it's the first, the best (and only) converted motorcycle in the wide kingdom of Finland.

There's another one coming up a bit later from the same forge.

Couple of words of the technology:

Original bike: Cagica Freccia C12 1990
Motor: ME0708
Controller: Sevcon Millipak 4Q
Batteries: 16 x Leader AGM 12V20Ah, 4 in a series, 4 series in parallel
Charger: on board, SBC-2413, 13A@48V
Wiring: within a serie: 16mm2, combined: 2x16mm2

Top speed: approximately 90km/h
Consumption: based on only one measurement: 36km ~ 47Ah@48V = 1.3 Ah/km in a mixed driving (in and out city limits) (Another measurement; same distance, but slower roads: 1.19Ah/km)

looking good, and a pretty good top speed, whats the acceleration like? pity bout the stick out batteries though, any plans to make some fairings/covers for them? and what your sprocket ratio, Im doing a build with very similar components. Btw i like the motor placement, did you have to modifiy the suspension linkage or did it just fit in there naturaly?

my daily commute is along Ring 1 around Helsinki, and ppl drive like there's no tomorrow. Even though the posted speed limit is 80, traffic flows 90-100 km/h. It's not safe to ride 80 with a tiny motorbike....

Acceleration is .... Well. What can I say. Not so great as in my mechanically charged MotoGuzzi or naturally aspired BMW. Let's say 'good enough' :)

Batteries showing is my choice, actually. I do have full fairings http://hogsden.dyndns.org/~jsavola/helsinki-bike-show-09/17.html but they make the bike look bulky and not pretty.

We were thinking about the motor placement and considered several alternatives. When I noticed that there needs to be done absolutely nothing to fit the motor 'there', there was no going back. Sorry about the pic quality, but: http://hogsden.dyndns.org/~jsavola/ElFreccia/25.html there goes ...

The motor placement, or finding it, was one of those "D'oh!" moments of life.

Anyway, current motor fastening is more or less temporary; now that the place is known, I think I'll weld more permanent solution in place. I'm not a welder myself, but I do have friends, who are pro.

You did a great job! I really like those Cagiva Frecia's... haven't been able to find one in the US yet though.

It may come as a surprise, but me and my buddy planned the project and purchased those Freccias of ours before we learned about EVas (heehee) Freccia. But when we more or less accidentally found Evas site, drool began to flow ... So cute was the bike, it sure gave us motivation to go on.

So; EVa of Sweden has EV-freccia, I have EV-freccia, my buddy Ilmari will get his EV-freccia done... and there's one more brewing in Finland as well, not connected to us per se http://yty.net/c/Random_EV_does_Cagiva/Introduction.html but sure we exchange email and experiences.

Freccia is rigid, faired, if you so choose and .... bloody powerful when it exited the factory. That means their engines and gearboxes are history now, "20 years" later so the are cheap.

I understand Freccia had 25kW originally, which is a damn lot for such a small bike.

In Finland it is legally OK to exceed original power by 20% without great fuss (taking into account weight and lots (!) of other regulations). So, in theory, I could wire ujp 30kW and still have street legal bike ... And 30kW is the number I present documents for, and as we all know, you can press electric motor much much harder, if you take care of cooling ...

So, in theory, with unobtainium-platinum condensators, the bike can be Quick and still street legal ... But that's beside the main point :)

Freccias are easy to get, cheap and really nice looking. My next bike, however, will probably be quite quite different ...

... but that happens later on.

Now I am waiting for replacement brush holder kit to arrive... It seems that I might have overloaded the motor (ME0708) and one brush holder melt. Funny, though, that this same spot was significantly warmer than other parts of the motor earlier...

Anyway, I'll make the the gearing slower and will probably monitor the engine temperature somehow in the future, just to avoid melting it again.

S**t happens, life goes on.
