Cummins all-electric big-rig
« on: September 01, 2017, 12:52:05 AM »

According to an article in the business section of my newspaper today, written by Louis Hansen of the Bay Area News Group, Cummins has just introduced an all-electric demonstration truck powered by a 140 kWh battery pack.  They will also be selling this battery pack to bus operators and commercial truck fleets in 2019. " "The concept Urban Hauler Tractor - known as Aeos, after a mythological Greek horse - carries a range of 100 miles on a singe charge, with optional batteries extending range to 300 miles. The battery pack charges in an hour."  :o The hauler is designed for short local routes, with a maximum payload of 44,000 pounds, the company said."

It's just a prototype. I'd bet they retrofitted an electric drivetrain to an existing chassis design. Tesla's will be designed from the ground up and likely will have far greater battery capacity and range.

140 kWh battery seems very small for a 100 mile all electric range.  Maybe with no load, so what will happen when its hauling 22,000 lbs?
