Group buy
« on: December 19, 2016, 08:30:04 AM »

I think Utah started subsidizing group buy discount on car EV's. Plug in hybrid cars are now part of the selection, depending on which state. In TX, Nissan Leaf has dropped to  $11,500 for 2016.

These programs may not be advertised at manufacturer website 'incentives'. Search group buy EV or similar search terms where you live.

Anyone live in a state considering group buy for moto-EV, ie Zero?

Wisconsin had a group buy program on select EV's They called it "REV Up Wisconsin"
http://www.wicleancities.org/projects/rev_up_wisconsin.php

One power company extended it to Jan 3rd 2017:
https://www.energy2030together.com/innovation/ev-offer-drives-interest.htm

It was all Nissan Leafs (Leaves(?)).

When gasoline plummeted in price (and a few states stopped incentives), Leaf sales also dropped so the "Group Buy" was motivated by a weakened market rather than a strongly negotiated group buy.

I took my Zero to a "ride and drive" promotion which they opened to all EV owners.  Which was was mostly a platform for dealerships to demonstrate.
I learned car dealers are very defensive of their territory, and motorcycle people LOVE the Zero. So I had to offer rides and demonstrate from outside the "cordoned off area" which I took as no real inconvenience as everyone arriving had to walk past my Zero to get to the dealer presentations and lots of them looped back.

I don't think Zero is at risk to be glutting the market, so any group buy would have little leverage for a discount.

Nice.  These programs are all state-specific, right?

I recommend new threads, state and brand/model specific, and some discussion as to what benefits one would expect by participating  and how to organize one. Brand/model-specific so as to attract people who are interested in the particular bike, and state-specific because the mechanism and application will vary by state.
