Alta Redshift SM test ride (July 2016)
« on: August 24, 2016, 08:16:57 PM »

Here is my test ride on the Alta Redshift SM from July 14th, 2016.  Looks like a good group of people at Alta and their assembly line is set up with some bikes on it (when I was there).  My guide was Jon Bekefy and he does most of the explaining about the details of the bike while I provide my impressions of it's characteristics.

How does it feel power wise compared to a zero fx?

The acceleration is very similar.  I'm not a racer, and I rode them 5 days apart so there may be differences that others will notice that I didn't, but they are both strong competitors.

That was an fun video showing you riding the Redshift up to San Bruno Mountain County Park, Ben.  You should have continued all of the way up Radio Road to the top of the mountain where the radio antennas are located.  There is a nice parking lot up there where you could have gotten a beautiful view of the SF city and the San Mateo peninsula.  Every now and then, when the weather is nice, I ride my motorcycle to the Park, park it in the big lot and then hike up to the top of the Mountain, around the other side and around the summit and back to the parking lot.  After the hike I return to the picnic area and eat a bag lunch.  It makes for a pleasant day doing my favorite things, riding and hiking.

That 4-lane road (Guadalupe Canyon Parkway) that you went up and down to access the Park is where the end of the big race and crash was filmed for the Bullet movie, when the the Ford Mustang driven by Steve McQueen was chasing the Dodge Charger driven by the two hit men before it crashed into the natural gas filling station and exploded - putting an end to the exciting chase.   ;D

Thanks for the context!  I had no idea where I was due to riding all day for 3 days to get there from Seattle.  It was a great place for a test ride!

The assembly process certainly does not appear efficient. I wonder how many man-hours were consumed in assembling one bike and how much of that was going to fetch the next piece?
