Better mirrors for the 2015 Zeros
« on: May 23, 2015, 02:20:46 AM »

Buy the 2014 ones!

So I am built like an orangutan, and I can drag elbows on both sides at once. I can adjust my mirrors so I can see my choice of shoulders or elbows. My FJR has about the only stock mirrors that were usable because they're mounted way forward and down on the fairing, and I still had to put 1" extenders on.

I tried a bunch of solutions, including XS-650 mirrors on 10" stalks. I ordered the 2014 mirrors after looking at them in the dealership.

I've now ridden with them for a couple hours and they're far, far better (for me) than the original stock mirrors.

They look sorta weird but they still say "zero" on 'em, so that's a plus. They do lose the "bug antenna" look too, and aren't bar-end mirrors, which I hate.

I wish this was still available. Seems reasonably safe!

Decades ago, I had something like this for my old XL185.  I just adapted a helmet mounted mirror made for bicyclists.  I really had to crane my eyeballs, but the thing was quite unobtrusive, and it worked.

I do a lot of bicycling and have a mirror called Take-A-Look which clips to my sunglasses and gives an excellent rear view with a slight turn of the head. The mirror is high quality and once you get used to focusing it works like a charm. I wouldn't ride without it. I have tried to think of a way to adapt it to my motorcycle helmet but the size of the helmet plus trying to find a good attachment method makes it a bit problematic. I'm not sure how it would do with increased wind speed on the freeway either. I would love to see something commercially made specifically for motorcycles.

Can bar end mirrors be made to work with hand guards? I had Napoleon's on my CB400F and they were the greatest. I recently discovered they still sell the same ones and at a pretty reasonable price, on Fleabay.

Well, here's one way to do it: affix the mirror mount to the guard.

I just put adapters on my FX to move the stock mirrors up 1 1/2 inches and out 2 inches. I think they are for a Yamaha. I matched thread diameter and reverse pitch on the left stalk.
