I honestly never thought that charging would be cheap, and the chargers have been priced to deter slow charging vehicles (aka Outlanders) to keep them clear for vehicles that rapid charge. Basically Dale pretty much outright said that he's trying to discourage slow charging PHEV's from using the network.

As we are slow charging EV's, basically we are *NOT* Electric Highways customers.

Yes, but, with a fast charger (mine, or the diginow for example) you can get nearly 50% charge in 30 minutes.

My guess would be, 100+ years ago, when you bought gasoline in a can at the hardware store, the price was pretty high and varied quite a bit. Now, with filling stations on every other street corner, there's a lot more competition and they can't get away with ridiculous rates.

I really can't believe they're going to be able to charge like they're trying to now, for very long. Charging ten bucks for two bucks' worth of electricity is ridiculous and people just won't buy it if there's any alternative, which should happen fairly soon.

The cost of the electricity is negligible, especially to the supplier. It's the cost of the equipment, the installation, maintenance, phone support and no doubt the location that costs. The price for charging reflects that. Even with government money I don't think keeping it free could have lasted long.

30 minutes per session is far better though. It gives a Leaf enough time to get to 80% or so.

Even so, that's still technically slow charging compared to the 43kw - 50Kw rapid charging that Ecotricity is pushing. ;)

But yeah, it'll be a long time before we can use that level of charging, and £12 to charge is a bit much.
