Seems like a fair deal, considering the mildly updated version of the bike will be sold for $20k in a couple months.

Considering it is R model and is still a new bike so any state rebates would still apply, I think the 12K they are asking is a fair price.  Anything lower would be a good price.  You might want to wait a few days and see what Zero is bringing out for 2016.  I am very happy with my Brammo Empulse R and prefer it to everything in the 2015 Zero lineup, but who knows what the 2016 model year will bring.  Test ride everything you can and see what YOU like best and what price it is worth to YOU.

$14k was the original fire sale price for the 2014 Empulse R, it was dropped to $12k several months ago.

I don't imagine there are very many left at this point. If you're specifically interested in the Empulse, I'd offer them $11k and see what they say. It's coming on the end of the riding season and they may be motivated to clear out inventory.

On the other hand.. it's $8k less than the very mildly refreshed Victory Empulse TT.

If you're open to the Zeros, wait until tomorrow for the 2016 bike reveals. Electric motorcycles have moved on incrementally from 2014.

Brammos in general seem to be pretty reliable, but your primary concern should be if there is a nearby Brammo or Victory dealership that are in contact with either company and definitely can provide replacement parts. Brammo's word that they'll support their dealerships is not enough.

I heard a rumor the other day that the 2015 Victory Empulse motorcycles were being assembled from a pile of spare parts purchased from Brammo when Polaris bought the motorcycle business and that they had enough parts to build 100 motorcycles.  Naturally, I have no way of confirming that information.  But it did come from an industry "insider".

I reliably get 50 highway miles (40-65mph) on a charge on my 2013 Empulse R.  The Victory Empulse TT should give you more range.

The just-announced 2016 Zeros with the J1772 Charge Tank (not available until Spring 2016), 13 kWh battery (the Empulse has 9 kWh), and claimed >90 highway miles of range at about the same price seems to be the better deal now.

I typically get 80 miles (when calculated down to 0% state of charge) for my mixed riding avoiding the freeway but still using 2 lane highways up to 55 mph for parts of my trips. 70 miles if riding 2 up.  If I am on the freeway at 65-70 mph, range is about 60 miles, but I am not comfortable being on the freeways with a state of charge less than about 8% so I plan for an available charger within 50 miles.  I have had days when it was hot out and in slow city traffic that calculated to 120 miles of range.

This is with a 2014 Empluse R.

P.S. It occurred to me that some readers might think 50 miles is poor range for an Empulse.   I haven't gone below 6% battery yet, so I don't know how far the bike would go before shutting down, but I might be able to get closer to 60 miles after slowing down.  But those first 50 miles I have confidence in.  After 55 miles, I'm carefully monitoring the battery meter.

Not sure I agree with that. Spec for spec, Brammo's nominal capacity is 9.3 kwh, while Zero's is 11.4. Price for the Zero S is $14k, while Zero SR is $16k. The J1772 Charge Tank is $2k extra. Meanwhile the Brammo has the fast charger built in, nicer components and the leftovers are selling for $12k. Now if we're comparing to the $20k Victory Empulse, then I'd have to give the nod to Zero, on price alone.
