Zero MX With Dualsport Kit
« on: July 24, 2009, 12:54:41 AM »

@MUEV posted some pics of the Zero MX with a Baja Designs ds kit. I wonder if the Zero DS dualsport will be just that?

He also rode the Zero S and had some interesting things to say about it.

Quote
I was very timid twisting the throttle for the first time, not really knowing what to expect. I learned my lesson after a giant macho twist on my first ride with the PRM 132 on our X. The S was smooth as butter off the line. Not jumpy or twitchy at all, but probably a little harder to leave a patch on the road behind me.

I started to get a little more aggressive and quickly got a feel for the torque response and the potential with the bike. From a standstill it didn't have nearly the pop of the lighter X and MX models, due to the gearing and weight, but as the S passed 15 or 20 mph it seemed to find its groove and take off like a rocket; perfect for twisties or weaving through traffic.

More great pics and some great reading here...

Thanks Skadamo.  That dual sport MX might be the way for me to go...the only  possible issue with I could have is the max speed...

Yeah, I prefer more dirt orientation in a street legal dirt bike than street orientation. But the Zero S is still cool.

MUEV, at 13000 feet what jetting works bes... never mind. ;)

Oh yeah, the dual sport is based off the S, not the MX.  It will be basically an S with knobbies and I've heard even beefier suspension.

Hey MUEV, sorry, I forgot to mention that was a fine article.  I have nothing against marketing, I just need to defend myself against it every once in a while!

MUEV, you said, "The S was smooth as butter off the line. Not jumpy or twitchy at all, but probably a little harder to leave a patch on the road behind me."

Are you pretty sure that is simply a matter of changing sprockets, or is there also something in the battery management system that is saving amps by regulating how abruptly the throttle can feed current into the motor?

It's a combo of a smaller sprocket and more weight with the same motor.

Thx for the compliment guity, and I completely understand. It's hard to sift through all the BS, especially with ev's. I try my best to keep it real.

Thanks MUEV, I'm doing my research.  Are you at headquarters by any chance?  I'm driving up to Oakland tomorrow to check out Electric Motorsport, and I was hoping to drive over to Scotts Valley on Thursday and see if they had any time to show any bikes.  Will they be OK with that, or would I be barging in?

If your going to be in oakland you can stop by my shop and take my zero out for a spin. Not road regged but I've yet to be pulled over and I've done a good 70miles + on the street now.

as for "patch on the road" No Zero can do that I've been on. It's hard as it is to hold the front brake and do a burn out. But putting a patch on the road....I dont think so. Or you got one hell of a smaller sprocket.
