Hidden or not so hidden features of the 2010 DS Zero
« on: August 30, 2015, 07:20:04 AM »

Took the 2010 DS Zero for another test ride today. The good news was I broke the land speed record of 94 Kph. Then a couple of new features not in the manual showed up. Whisper quiet motor, after a clunking noise and my favourite, the hidden exercise bike feature, as I pushed it from Town a few miles back home... Though I thought exercise bikes usually had pedals, that would have been very useful.... Well I got my exercise quota for this millennium today anyway.

Looks like I will be measuring the brush sizes myself. With less than 1.5k miles on the clock, it has returned to paperweight mode.

Cheers,
Cam

In miles for the miles people. That is where I guess it will stay for a few more months until I can source parts or it runs out of registration and then I will have a problem.

It appears that I can. "ZERO ARE OFFERING AN EARLY ADOPTERS FACTORY REBATE ON ALL FLOOR STOCK MODELS OF $3500.00! BE QUICK AS THEY WON'T LAST AT THESE DISCOUNTED PRICES.

BE THE FIRST TO GRAB A PEICE OF THE FUTURE!"  As written, right down to the misspelling of piece. http://www.ccmotorcycles.com.au/zero-motorcycles

I can't find what they actually have on offer, they don't seem to list any floor stock on their site...
Zero Motorcycles Australia has announced pricing on its 2014 model range, which has now arrived in Australia. The rideaway pricing is as follows:
Zero S 8.5 $20,490
Zero S 11.4 $23,390
Zero SR $25,490
Zero DS 11.4 $23,490
Zero FX 5.7 $19,490

That is what they did cost here.  No tax or any other kind of rebates in Australia, just charges here....

The thing is that the original 2010 DS cost $13,590 in 2010 when the Aussie dollar was worth more than the US dollar and there were no rebates at all for going electric here and 4½ years later, with 1500 miles on the clock, I can get $3500 off a last year's model, that they want $23,490 for a new DS, so $20K and still no rebates.  http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2010/11/street-legal-electric-zero-motorcycles-now-quietly-hitting-australian-roads/

thats is old post or website not updated, i dont think they are doing rebates. Also they claimed to keep price same in 2015, but it was rebate pricing for 2014.
And the best model the SR went up in price from $25500 to $26500

Oh okay.  Well I am waiting to hear from Zero to see if they will offer any kind of support.  Pity if they don't, since my brother who originally bought the bike, paid good money for it.  He did so based on much hype, that as far as I can see, was never delivered.  Plus he was a very enthusiastic supporter and one of Zero's most ardent defenders.  My brother is much more forgiving for the way his bike turned out than I am. Not after he paid $13½ thousand for the thing which is now apparently a 4½ year old machine that has done less than 1500 miles and now has zero parts or service support.

My brother wrote a blog about the bike and how good it was... I am now on that blog with updates.  http://zerods.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/not-quite-end-of-line.html#comment-form

I just had confirmation from Zero.  The offer of the $3500 trade in for Early Adopters in Australia, finished last year.  I had a quote on a battery pack replacement.  $11,000, for a new Molly pack.  They can't supply parts for the motor.  I am waiting to see what kind of trade in they will offer for a dead 2010 DS on a 2014 DS they have... Judging by the customer service so far though, unless the new bike works out for free, I don't think I will be throwing anymore money down the Zero pit, being out 14 000 for 1500 miles of riding is enough to waste.

Well $11 000 for a battery, or I saw an RZ 500 Yamaha from 1984, fully restored! For only 10K and the good thing is that I can still buy parts for the RZ easily at a reasonable cost and take it to any mechanic and get it serviced, now would that be a pleasant change....

Was just told by the Zero dealer, they won't trade in my dead DS 2010 for anything, but that they don't want it even if it was going.  The trade in price, in the guide is $6000.  I can't buy any parts for the bike from Zero it seems, without spending hours on the phone and finding people who might know people.... The dealer went on to tell me how great Zeros were at which point I got to the you have got to be kidding me response.... I can't sell it for more than scrap, I can't trade it in at all, I can't get the parts from the company who made the bike to fix the bike and you are telling me how good Zero is... I hope they do a better job in the future.

Zero are over priced in Australia ! No support. No trade in credits.

You would be better at converting it to Nissin Leaf cells. They are proper long life EV batteries, no voltage sag under load and weigh less.

If I manage to get the motor working again, I now suspect I will need a new armature, then I was looking into the leaf cells as an option.  I am not sure about the  availability, cost and compatibility with the BMS but this still seems like the best option.  Better than the $11000.oo quoted for a replacement battery unit, that would have to be custom made.

Well Manny from Zero in the USA has worked hard to try and help out.  He has sourced a second hand Agni motor that they are fixing up for me now and say they will send for the cost of shipping!! Well now I am feeling a lot happier with Zero and that they are supporting their products even well past their support for the 2010.  I suspect they were more sympathetic in this case, due to the low kilometers on the bike and the fact it had actually died during the 2 yr warranty period.  That wasn't Zero's fault that the warranty wasn't followed up when the issues first occurred.

Fingers crossed this Zero should live again.. Will keep you posted....

Glad Zero is going the extra mile for you; I think sometimes good reports of their customer service (they exist, I've had good experience) is overshadowed by the bad reports.

Glad your bring looked after. Regarding leaf cells BMS should work as cell voltages are about same as the original molicell. There are a couple of posts here about guys who have already done it.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D UPDATE  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Zero in Australia had contacted Zero in the USA and they both decided it was not a good idea for me to continue to fix this 2010, since they couldn't provide battery support and service in Australia at a reasonable price... Therefore they are going to provide a trade in on an a new DS 2014 with a very, very fair deal on the dead DS!

They have absolutely done the right thing once they really found out about it and what had happened to this old DS !!! the fact that the DS had only made it such a short distance and died during the warranty period (even though it wasn't followed up until now) actually made a difference to them at Zero.... It pays to be patient and talk to Zero about any issues.  Not just your dealers, they haven't the power to do that much for you directly, their hands are often tied by the "standard" policy. Dealers can talk to Zero itself though and that is completely different.  I seriously doubt any of the other "big" motorcycle companies would take a personal interest in the plight of a customer so far from the factory...

Well done Zero... Full marks for this one  ;D  Looking forward to my brother anyway (The bike goes back to him) joining the ranks of the 2014 brigade on a bike that works well :D  This time if it breaks during the warranty period, he had better get it fixed by Zero when it happens, because I am not going to bother them again after this... I would be too embarrassed  :-[

Thanks Zero  :)

Very happy for you , and good job Zero, they really need to show they are supporting the Aussie market.
there would not be many 2009, 20010 models here , only a handful would have been sold, and did not sell again until 2014.
So looking after those early adopter who too a huge risk is very important.
