Electric motorcycle
« on: July 24, 2015, 01:08:31 AM »

I'm new here I'm looking at electric motorcycle because I got into an accident last summer and injured my right knee I tried to get back on a bike but any kind of vibration bothers my knee.

I really want to ride a motorcycle again but so far I can't find anything that I can ride and not be in pain during and after the ride.

So far the only electric motorcycles I found in Canada are the Zero electric motorcycles is there any other electric motorcycle companies out there?

Where in Canada are you? I live in Ontario, near Peterborough, check the dealer locator on the zero website and try one out, Brammo is another brand but only one dealer in Canada as far as I remember, plus Brammo sold out to Polaris

Well to be honest Zero is the best in the market right now.

I'm in Hamilton I found a Zero dealer they are Oakville Yamaha I'm going to try the bike out after the pan am games.

Is there any conversion kits to change a regular motorcycle into an electric motorcycle?

Make sure to run over some rough roads as well, or at least a little rougher than you would normally find while riding. Even if the powertrain is smooth - and it is! - you'll still pick up some harshness from the road surface.

It's a much higher price tag than the Zeros, but check out Lito Sora. It has a CVT for higher speeds and significantly different styling than anything else in the electric space. Plus, it's made in Canada.. they've been shipping bikes in small numbers for a couple of years.

There are some conversion kits - check out elmoto.net for the main motorcycle building community. Converting a bike can be a fun project, but I think in general the kits haven't kept up with the advances in production vehicles. Usually the kits will be a motor + controller + displays, and frequently they're designed more for cars than for motorcycles.

Zero used to sell powertrains - trikester has a custom trike based on a yamaha 3 wheeler that uses a Zero powertrain - but Zero has moved away from doing this recently.

I think Energica have a dealer in Canada now too, though I don't know their availability yet and, like Lito Sora, they're twice the price of a Zero.
