What's the max current for external charging?
« on: May 06, 2015, 01:22:50 AM »

I am investigating what the possibilities are for DC fast charging through the external Anderson connector. What's the max possible current that this port can handle?
Is it the 100A related to the fuse or is it less/more?

The Farasis cells used by Zero support a maximum sustained charge rate of 1C. So, the maximum rate that you can push will be whatever the capacity of your bike in Ah. For example, for the 2014 11.4 models this was 100A.The 8.5 were 75A and the two battery block FX was 50A. Each bike also has a fuse which limits the charge rate. In the case of my 2014 Zero SR 11.4 that uses a 100A fuse. This varies by bike so you need to check the manual. The Anderson connectors have a max rating of 110A so that shouldn't be a limiting factor.

Thanks!

I own the 2015 DS 12.5 with 2.8 power tank. The manual says the fuse is 100A so I guess that it must stay below 100A.

Yes, in your case 100A is the limit using the fast charge port. Let us know if you find a suitable high current charger at reasonable cost. Most have to combine multiple chargers and it gets expensive or requires good DIY electrical skills.

I am investigating Chademo charging through the external port. I am talking with a Dutch specialist in ICE - EV conversions with knowledge of Chademo.
