Chargers on board and off board
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:42:10 AM »

Hi All

Long story short I'm beavering away down under with charger options and re-reading all posts on what all you clever people have been doing.

Primarily, I'm looking for the best developed, simplest (after-market) solution for 2014 and 2015 models at around 6kW to use with j1772.

Seems that Meanwell are the best package so far?

Can anyone confirm to me that :
    the original
on board chargers to 2012 where Delta Q and this changed for 2013 to 2015 to Meanwell?
The current and past off board chargers are still Delta Q

Interestingly, the Taiwanese Delta company (not to be confused with Canadian Delta Q) are also into ev and much much more. They have some world records for power density in the space and according to their local sales guy who I spoke to yesterday:
They supply Tesla and Bosch with their chargers
    Just bought Mitsubishi's battery business
They just bought Eltek
They are a huge supplier of infrastructure charging stations, including many under different brand names

http://www.deltaww.com/

They have some pretty incredible sounding charging products coming out, hoping to pilot trial one!

Has anyone looked into thunderstruck pfc 2500 charger, it comes with all the goodies to run j1772 including the interface plus it's rated ip66, check out evwest's website, this may be a good option, I don't have a bike to test it on, yet! And it's user programmable from a pc

Response:

Hi Nigel:
We have not tried it on a Zero yet. It was intended to be used for multiple vehicles with different voltage battery packs and even different battery chemistry. It can be doubled up for a top output of 30 amps. auto sensing power in from 90 vac to 260vac.

I can confirm that Zero Motorcycles' off-board charger is made by Delta-Q.  You should be aware that there are voltage differences between 2012 at 72V and 2013 and later at 96V.  These are programmed to our specifications.

With respect to on-board chargers, I assume we are discussing the SDS platform motorcycles.  If so, the on-board chargers have changed from Delta-Q to Meanwell to Calex.

These are the only solutions that Zero Motorcycles supports for use with our motorcycles. And only for the use intended.
