Ready for FX, but dealer wary
« on: July 12, 2014, 04:16:47 AM »

My plan is to purchase the 2014 FX.  I don't think advancement in battery tech (in the coming months) will be compelling enough
to warrant a wait for the 2015 models.
After reading many owner posts, it is clear to me that the quality/competence of dealer service is essential.  I see that specific dealers
have been mentioned by name, so I guess it is ok to do so.  The dealer I have in mind is called "Carbon Negative" in Brooklyn, NY.
I live in NYC ~ 7 miles away, so this would be ideal!  According to their FB page they have been selling Zero for several years.
Given their experience, can I assume they are well versed in ev componentry?  I know this is a long shot, but I am hoping there are
some Zero owners/forum participants in the NY area not identified on the Frodus map.
So....anyone familiar with this dealer?   Btw, the last bike I owned was stolen in 1990.  It was a Kaw. GPX 750.  Loved it.
I can finally forgive my bike thieves.  One of the reasons for choosing the FX - I will keep it in my apartment overnight. :)
Thanks for any input!

I got a 2014 FX from a dealership in Rochester, NY. The people there don't seem to be well-versed in the workings of the machinery - for instance, they didn't know the purpose of a particular tool that came with the Zero. They were all fiddly with the machine, trying to figure out how to plug in the Quick Charger (I had to figure this out later on my own). I was actually the first person in the region to buy a FX!

I expected this sort of behavior/knowledge based on my readings on this forum. If any issues arise, I will be making sure to contact Zero directly and that dealership and keep on top of both, ensuring that they both communicate well with each other for resolving stuff.

The FX is an absolute gem of a bike. I sold my 2004 ZX-6R recently because the FX was simply better. Good luck!

You've probably gotten your FX by now, but if not, I would go with Carbon Negative (I live in CT, about 50 miles from them).  I first test-rode a 2013 FX there and got a very good impression from Matthew and Zach (the owner). but for various reasons ended up getting both my FX's from a dealer in NJ.  My experience with the NJ place so far has been similar to your Rochester dealer.

I spoke to Zach on the phone last week, and he indicated that they work closely with Zero from the very start of a repair.  I think a lot of mainly-IC dealers do NOT do this, and have a tendency to break the wrenches out first and then contact Zero after the sparks fly. :)

Zach knows what he is doing at Carbon Negative.  You can feel confident that he will take care of you.

The Rochester dealership has some great people, I met them on my summer trip.  I think their customer service is top notch, but that doesn't make them electrical engineers.  They will probably move along the learning curve pretty quickly, though.

I live in Northern NJ and got my bike from Carbon Negative and Zach has taken care of my needs for the past 2.5 years.

What a shame about Carbon Negative closing shop this week. :(  Even though it must have been a very busy time for him, Zach still got my FX working reliably and set me up with Zero for a warranty motor replacement before the doors closed.  They will be missed.

Yup, just found out yesterday.  He was a good dealer.

If I had time, I would visit local dealers to gauge interest, but life is full up right now.
