Any Zero's in Connecticut?
« on: September 07, 2014, 11:13:25 PM »

Since there are no Zero dealers in CT I was wondering if someone has bought his/her Zero elsewhere and registered it in CT.

I think rayivers bought his at the Cherry Hill Zero dealer, then registered in CT.

Got mine at Carbon Negative in Brooklyn and live in Northern NJ.

How was/is your experience with Carbon Negative, and the bike itself?

Carbon Negative is a good place to get anZero.  Zach, the owner, knows how to communicate effectively with Zero if you have an issue and he takes care of things quickly.

I absolutely love my Zero and have put 21,600 miles on it including a cross country trip and another trip this past summer of 5,500 miles.  Rode the tail of the Dragon and up Mt. Washington while spreading the word that electric motorcycles rock and they are available now!

That's great to hear you've put so many miles on your Zero. Any problems so far? Which model do you own?
Are you aware of any demo rides to be offered in North East any time soon by any chance?

You can take a demo ride at any time.  Probably a good idea to email Zach at Carbon negative at Zach at CarbonNegative.com to set up a time, and their hours are not correct on their website, they close at 6 instead of 7 now.

I have only been over there a few times, and most of those visits were to have them install upgrades.  I had them put a size 6 controller on my 2012 Zero S, which makes it perform similar to a 2013 Zero S.

Basically it has been rock solid and I have only had upgrades done, tires changed and firmware updated.  I would say that you can expect to visit a dealer once or twice per year for regular stuff or to check on something.  However, for the most part you can just hop on and ride!

Thanks for the contact info and reliability feedback.
Have you ridden an SR by any chance? Just wondering how it compares to the S. I am used to the plentiful torque and 0-60 in 3.5 sec with my bmw f800st and would want comparable performance in a Zero. Not that I can afford an SR anyway.
It terms of "farkling" the bike - since there is no typical 12V motorcycle battery, how do you connect a motorcycle alarm, gps and Gerbing connecting harness for those cold days? A 12v accessory socket won't solve that.

There is a switching power supply, I believe made by Sevcon, which provides 13.2VDC (pretty much standard voltage for a running alternator) when the ignition switch is turned on. I don't know the current rating, nor do I know the current draw for the installed equipment, but I do know that the accessory 12V socket is capable of supplying 10 amps. That won't help you with the alarm (not live when the switch is turned off), but it will work for gps, cell phone charger and even some electric clothing .

Where I live I would feel more comfortable having an alarm. I've had Scorpio alarms with a perimeter sensor on all of my motorcycles and would want to install it on a Zero as well. Is there really no way to get a continuous 12V current while the bike is off??
