New software flashed; now have an oddity in the Android app
« on: November 26, 2017, 01:14:38 AM »

Last week I brought my S in for the latest software flash.  Everything seemed fine, though it did reset my "Custom" configuration.  No problem as I was able to reset it back where I liked.  The odd thing I'm noticing though, is in the app display while I'm riding.

It is a pretty well-discussed issue here that the "Range to Empty" display in the app is often wildly at odds with the "Range to Empty" display in the dash.  I like keeping an eye on both and using the lowest of the two numbers as my guideline (a pessimist is never disappointed).

However, after the software on the bike was flashed, the display on the Android app is REALLY nuts.  Now it displays a NEGATIVE value, and while I'm riding it increments towards zero.  WTF???

That means the farter you go the higher the numerical number of kW/h you get.

FREE ENERGY

Let's not bring up the subject of "zero point"energy and perpetual motion again.  :o

I am happy that I only look at my dash while riding and not my cell phone's app.  Frankly, I never trust my cell phone and try to keep it turned off as much as possible to save the battery and to keep it's updating my installed apps every chance it gets to a minimum.  ;)

Never update the firmware of a device which works well! It will only go worse.... True for anything, smartphone, computer, motorbike, aircraft, space shuttle etc.

Even the Zero App gets bigger (in megabytes) from update to update without working better. I installed an old version of the zero app, the only one capable to set the custom mode of the 2014 S.

Well, I went out for a ride today and I THINK I see what is happening.  The flash of the bike reset all of the data so the app is "re-learning" everything.  Today, the "Range to Empty" figure started at 0, then slowly climbed up to where it ALMOST matched the figure on the dash.  Then, it started counting back down again.

I'll be taking the bike to work tomorrow (if the temperature is above 40, otherwise I'll use the C650GT again) and see what happens.
