E-moto enthusiast in Nebraska!
« on: May 18, 2009, 08:21:15 AM »

Hey everyone! I'm currently stationed at Offutt AFB in Nebraska, and am in the process of converting a 1992 Yamaha XJ600 Seca II, to electric hub-motor driven streetfighter-style motorcycle!
The bike is currently stripped down to a frame, and I've got all the replacement body parts that I need on the way. I'm planning on investing in EnerTrac's MHM602 hub motor:
http://www.doingitall.net/EnerTrac/index.php
I'm also looking to get this thing up to 70mph, with about a 70-80mi range.

I'm not too keen on the battery technology, but from what I do know, I want to go with LiFePo4, at 96v. I'm not sure how many amp-hours/amps/Kwh I need though. Any help in that aspect would greatly be appreciated!

Here is a link to some of the math you will need to do for working out batt size to go with. Just reduce the drag and weight. http://www.metricmind.com/audi/3a-simple_sim.htm

sounds like a pretty beefy hub moto youre getting, should do the trick! doesnt say how heavy it is though (as far as i can see) could be a concerne as putting th motor on the wheel will greatly increase the unsprung weight and significantly change the suspension action if the motor is quite heavy. Picasso posteda god link for the battery calculations, and there is also a tech maths spreadsheet on http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=315.0
