Addicted to Spirited Riding
« on: November 07, 2015, 09:46:20 PM »

Hello, I am new to this forum just a few months ago. My name is mrwilsn and I am addicted to spirited motorcycle riding  :'(

I have had a love affair with motorcycles for as long as I can remember.  Being in a cage has never been a good fit for me.

I am addicted to:

1. The lean
2. The acceleration...speeding up and slowing down
3. The maneuverability
4. The wind
5. Feeling the changes in temperature.  Not just seasonal but during a ride.  A dip into a valley filled with cool air on a hot summer night  8)
6. Taking in the smells of the world. The BBQ I just passed.  The field of grass coming up.  The bakery downtown.

About a year ago, things got worse after a purchase of a Zero S.  The electric drive train makes the high even better.  I can do things with my Zero that I could never do with any ICE bike I have ever been on.

I am suddenly hearing things that I have never heard before.  People in cars next to me asking about my bike.

Where's the motor? Ohh, electric. I didn't even know those exist. How far can you go? Is it fast?

Hahaha....is it fast? You could say that.  It's not the fastest bike I have ever been on but it FEELS like the fastest bike I have ever been on because all its performance is on tap at all times.  8)

If the coast is clear all around me, I will deliberately try to scrape the pegs any chance I get.  I roll the throttle to max after every stop.  When I find myself in a cars blind spot I will punch the throttle without a care in the world for gear assignment and find myself safely ahead of the car where the driver can easily see me.  I ride late at night or super early in the morning when there aren't any other cars on the road and I will weave between lanes or around sewer covers just for giggles.  Track days are sanctioned highs.

I have recently been having thoughts of buying a Zero FXS.   :-\  If I could afford a second bike or justify the need there wouldn't be any hesitation.  All the things I am already addicted to plus wheelies and stoppies?   :o  I need help.

I have also been considering trading in the 2014 Zero S for a 2016 Zero SR.   :-\  More acceleration  :o Harder riding without overheating  :o Help me, please.

But how could I resist secret thoughts of an FX or a DSR and taking my addiction off road...even off the ground  :o I'm out of control.

But I'm not really on here to get help...I'm here looking for partners in crime and what better place to look...haha....I didn't say that last part out loud did I?

You look like a victim of the classic bikers problem, that the right amount of bikes to have is always n+1.

Haha....exactly! If I could, I would have a Jay Leno sized collection except it would be mostly bikes and some cars instead of his collection of mostly cars and some bikes.

I second number 6!  It just is not mentioned enough.

Planning my dinner based on the smells  - actually it tends to refocus my plans onto BBQ.
Or easily identify cars than smell of burnt oil, brake fluid, high test, or anti-freeze.

I have to think that the Police version would readily sell as I can tell brand of cigarettes (if you know what I mean) being smoked in a car, or that house that smells of ether.

Haha...I can't tell you how many times I pulled up next to a car and smelled some goofy cigarettes... and the car windows were closed!

I have even been able to pick up the scent from a car in front of me while moving!
