DO IT.
I have one (refitted with a UK plug) and its really very good indeed.
I cannot recommend Harlens version of the Elcon enough.

pluto,

The blades you see in the NEMA 14-50 plug are removable. Just pull out the neutral. Each blade as a screw type clamp for securing wires. I think some silicone sealant would work to weatherproof it.

Justin,

What's wrong with Harlen's version of the Elcon?

Speaking of the Elcon 2.5 (and 5) chargers.
A quick question to those people who own external chargers
Does the internal 1.2kw bike charger need to be plugged in as well, or can you *just* charge off the external Elcon?
I have a pair of the 2.5kW ElCons from Hollywood Electrics, and I watched the final part of a couple charge cycles with them plus the on-board unit all running.  The two ElCons shut off individually just before 100% SOC was indicated, apparently leaving the balancing stage to the on-board unit.  [2014 SR]

Nothing is wrong with them.  He said he can't recommend them *enough*!

Lots of Zero owners use them and we're pretty happy with them.  I just rode 4,800 miles in the last 2 weeks using them.  Averaging about 320 miles per day.

Cheers Ben.  :)

About the only thing wrong I can see is that the 2013 bikes can only handle the one charger... (boo) ...which is just *another* reason to trade up to a 2015 (or 2016 when they become available) ;)

You don't need to use the stock Anderson connector to charge.

Make your own Anderson connector and hook it to your controller's B+/- terminals and route the 3/4 pins to the new Anderson connection point (less you just popped the big pins out of it and slid in your own new connection points ;) )

Make sure to cap off / seal / etc the old connection pins routed through the 30amp fuse you take out!

Has anyone put the Elcon's in the Zero soft bags? Or would they fit/wear through the bags on trips? Also, has anyone had their chargers stolen, or do people just leave high voltage hardware alone?

Aaron from Zero (also here on the forum) told me when I got my bike (2015 SR) back with the new BMS board - to never try to charge with just the off-board charger. Rather, the onboard charger should always be plugged in and charging before you connect any off board chargers. Something to do with the 'contactor'.

In a way yes. You can charge at far greater numbers through your controller than you can through the provided charging circuit on the 2013 S / DS

Especially if you modify the "regen" max amps to be higher than stock.

¿Hay muchas lugares donde puede cargar?  ¿Hay muchos vehículos electricos alla?

Can anyone tell me if the QuiQ Zero Quick Charger will work with the Hollywood electrics custom J1772 adapter?

I can't swing $1300 for the Elcon right now.

The Delta-Q can accept 240V 60Hz, but you will need a IEC C13 to C20 adapter.

Example:
