Hypothetical EV "Pony Express"
« on: April 20, 2014, 09:19:27 PM »

Just suppose someone was making a long distance EV Motorcycle trip passing through your area nearing the end of their range - swapping for your charged bike (for the 2 dollars it costs to recharge both) and returning in a day or two swapping back for their charged bike.  I'm not aware of anyone planning the trip, or considering liability logistics... just as  a model how far can we get?

Any takers on linking up a "Hypothetical" EV Pony Express line?

Directional / Nearest Major City / Range / Model
East / Madison  WI / 70-130 miles   / Zero S 11.4

Are you talking about actually giving a stranger your bike? Count me out.

My motorcycle insurance doesn't cover any other riders than me, so that would be an issue for such a scheme.

Allstate does cover more than one rider for a bike, I think several others do to but I don't think any cover 'guest' riders per say. And I wish they would >_<

I've modified the precepts.

Changing "Theoretical" to "Hypothetical" and clarifying liability.

The intent - is to determine if we have the density to make an EV Pony Express.

Enjoy!

There used to be a map of Brammo owners and would-be owners. I recall it was pretty sparse outside of larger cities.

Maybe we should do something similar for Zero owners.

That would be interesting.   :)

reposting here, hoping the map might help:

I'm working on a a permanent domain, but in the meantime, I've put it on my personal website:
http://www.evfr.net/
(the map WILL retain any information you enter, so when I do finally port somewhere, the data stays with the map)

Go to the link above, click "add" and enter your information. I kind of hope people put their email so other users can contact them. This is for all motorcycle users right now. I may make changes in the coming days, but I'll try my best to keep things intact.

Right now, I approve your locations, but I may change that. We'll see how bad spam is.

This is all on my personal domain and in no way related to my business.

Enjoy!

Looks great frodus.

One thing I was thinking about.. what if you displayed range (55 mph or highway commuting) as a circle centered on their location? (Maybe a toggle on/off) .. that would basically show the same thing ctrlburn was asking about.

I didn't program it.... It's just a user map at this point based on zeemaps.    I can look into things like that but I don't think there's an option for that.

There's a search feature that I enabled that can give more info. What he CAN do, is on the search button, search for people within a certain range from him.

i.e. I can search for all users within a 75 mile radius of a location, or a point on the map. Location could be an address or zip code.
