2013 tax credit
« on: February 09, 2014, 12:47:39 AM »

I am trying to do my taxes and they asked me for a  manufacture's certification so the credit I get matches what's on the certification. Does anyone have info on this. I own a 2013 zero fx 5.7. I got an epa certification but there's nothing about tax credit.

When I had my taxes prepared last year the IRS computer form already had an approval for the 2012 Zero S that I bought.  My understanding is that the manufacturer submits their certification that their various Zero models meet the requirements of the IRS to get the federal tax credit.  Once the IRS has this certification they plug it into their computer, which then allows you to enter the bike, along with its VIN, into their form 8936.

If that is not working this year and you really need a paper copy of the certification, you should contact Zero and I would think that they could email a copy to you.

I just finished my taxes on TurboTax. All it asked me was vin no, KWs, price. The form you use  just came available this evening to upload to TurboTax. Anyway my credit was $400 only since I traded in a bike to get my 13 Zero S. It goes by what you actually pay for the bike, not what the bike is worth. TurboTax has a list of the eligible electric vehicles including Zero and there was nothing else I had to include to get the credit.
