newby with a question
« on: September 24, 2013, 06:48:03 AM »

Hi, new to the forum and looking to get into a zero mx. There is an extremely clean 09 zero mx for sale near me, but it has a bad battery. I have been lurking on here for a bit, but I want to know what my options are if I bought the bike. I talked with zero and they no longer have any batterys available on the shelf. They did say they could make one, but it would probably take a while with no exact timeline. Is there anyone who could rebuld the existing battery? or are there any upgrade version? Here are some pictures of the bike.  Thanks  Scott

You can buy a 2012 X/MX so cheap nowadays that you would have to be mental to pay anything more that freight costs on a 2009 model with a bricked battery.

If Zero can build you a battery - particularly if they can use newer cell chemistry and not NOS molicel cylindrical cells - then I would say go for it, if the price is right.

But NoiseBoy is correct. Rebuilding a battery for the bikes is non-trivial, unless you specifically want it as a hobby then I would suggest looking at bikes with batteries that you can verify are operational.

The guy wants $2250 for the bike, and it looks like brand new. Supposedly has better motor and suspension. Not sure if its worth it.

It's only worth anything to a hobbyist that wants to use the chassis for a project or to strip it for parts.  If you want to build your own pack for fun, offer him $1000 tops.  Otherwise walk away.

If he wants two grand, I'd ask him for the bricked battery pack as well...

That includes the charger and dead battery. I don't think I want to tackle rebuilding the battery. Will any of the newer battery's work. I have a line on a 2011 battery pack.

I have a 2011 battery in my 09 XE. Zero had to build an adapter for the BMS.
