Looking to meet other riders in the San Francisco Bay Area
« on: March 09, 2013, 01:03:57 PM »

Hi!  I bought a 2012 Zero S (my first and only motorcycle) back in mid-December and absolutely love it.  I've put about 2000 miles on it so far (not counting about 400 on a loaner Zero while it was in for service) visiting beautiful places around the Bay Area.  I just wish I had other people with whom to share this great joy.

Would anyone in the area like to meet for a ride, or just a conversation?

I've kept track of my sightings of other electric motorcycles.  Out of curiosity, was any of these anyone on this forum?
  • Saturday, January 19, 2013, about 2:30 pm: A red Zero S going south on the Great Highway in San Francisco.  I was going north on my Zero.
  • Saturday, January 19, 2013, about 6:30 pm: A Vectrix parked in the motorcycle area of the SFMTA Sutter & Stockton Garage.
  • Sunday, January 27, 2013, about 12:00 pm: I spoke with a new Brammo Empulse R owner at the SFMTA Golden Gateway garage, but we didn't exchange contact info.
  • Wednesday, February 27, 2013, about 7:00 pm: A Zero (I couldn't tell the color or model in the dark) going south on San Antonio Road in Mountain View, waiting at the traffic light at East Bayshore Road.  I was riding in a friend's car.

Well, I live in Pacifica and I can make it up to Alice's restaurant and back.  The problem of getting together is that we have to find a location that we have enough range to meet at and still be able to return home (see my Zero vs Empulse story).  That means narrowing down the search from the "Bay Area" to the northern Peninsula, Silicon Valley, Marin County or the East Bay, etc. Where are you located, matt?

I'm in Mountain View.  (I put it in my profile, but I guess this forum doesn't show locations in the left column.  Sorry for the inconvenience.)

Alice's would be a fine first place to meet.  I'll PM you my phone number so we can make further arrangements.

Nice to meet you Matt.

Yesterday I turned all my clocks back an hour, instead of forward an hour - you know how it is when you get older.   ;)  So I woke up two hours later than usual, noticed the sunlight, got dressed and jumped on my FZ1 (riding the Zero was going to be too slow) for a spirited ride to Alice's Restaurant where I was supposed to meet some friends for breakfast - at 8:30 am.  Right after I arrived, Matt silently rolled into the parking lot.  So we all had breakfast together.  It turned out to be a beautiful day.

Now I am catching up on internet happenings and resetting all of my clocks. ::)

Richard,

You tactfully left out my silly fall trying to make a sharp turn into the parking lot.  Luckily, neither I nor Scott (that's my Zero) was hurt to speak of.

I enjoyed meeting you and your friends, and I look forward to going on an all-electric motorcycle ride at a mutually convenient time.

Cheers!

I had breakfast with Matt on Sunday.  I hadn't seen him for a couple of months and wondered what was going on.  It turns out that in April he was center-punched by a car coming out of a driveway as he passed by on the street.  He broke his leg and his bike was knocked over and various parts, such as the mirrors, bars and plastic was damaged.  He is now back on his feet and driving his Leaf, but his 2012 Zero S is in the shop since the accident waiting for parts to arrive from Zero (about 80 miles away) so that repairs can be made.  Tough luck, Matt. Here's hoping the parts eventually show up and you get your bike back.

I'll be near you August 16th and a few days after that.  Will be visiting from NJ (long story for another thread), but it would be great to meet up while I'm over there.

Updated information on my trip and when/where I'll be is at:

Hope to see you in August!

Sounds like fun.  Just beware, if you ride up Highway 1 along the Pacific coast, it will likely be heavy, wet fog near the ocean during that month.

Hi Matt!
You might be the third person I have heard of whose first motorcycle is a Zero (including me). Congrats on your new ride!  At first I had thought of my Zero as my commuter bike and the more economical vehicle for those small errands, but I have found that I love going on recreational rides, and have started to hear the call of the open road. I have since traded in for the 2012 Zero S, but between the two, I have ridden over 6,000 miles.

Cheers!

Benswing, what's the Ride the Future Tour schedule and route for August 15-16?  Would you be willing to let me, and possibly others similarly situated, join you for part of the tour?  If that doesn't work out, we can consider rides for the following weekend.

FTR: This was Jeff of the Brammo Forum.  I saw him again at the EV Summit last month.
