Waterproof battery and motor problem zf9 2012
« on: April 24, 2018, 11:42:55 PM »

Hi
I'm from Spain
My bike is a zero 2012 zf9 limited edition.
Sorry, i'm using google traductor.
My odyssey started 2000km/6 months after buying it in February 2013.
Change of motor. Dealer took 2 months to change it.
In 2015 just after the warranty was over, I had problems with the bms.
Dealer changed it without cost. But they broke the throttle grip. I had to pay. Again almost 2 months in dealer.
At the end of 2016 I lost enough autonomy. Do not take it to repair because dealer always took 2 months to repair it.
At the beginning of 2017 the engine broke. 30000km. Smoke started from the motor, smelling of burnt plastic.
I left it parked until the end of the year when I began to dismantle it. Always charging.

Motor problem:
Two rotor screws were released.
One disappeared.
The other gets stuck between one of the windings and the rotor.
Destroying part of the winding and disintegrating the temperature sensor.
John Fiorenza of Motenergy,Inc. send me winding with temp sensor. 120$ shipping included.

Waterproof batery:
Lower cell module was affected by corrosion. Some water entered by bms plastic viewfinder.
I clean lower part of the battery, housing cells and cells.
Several cells were low voltage and inflated.
I recovered some with an imaxb6 lipo battery charger.
I returned to mount the module, but without damaged cells.
Trying to cheat the bms. Not being able to connect some cells in parallel
bms detects the same voltage but half amperage.

I mount the battery and the motor on the motorcycle.
Bms flashes the battery has discharged.
And 2-4 flashes error in dash.
I connect with usb-ttl cable to the obd connector.
I can connect with mbb. Indicating, Warning: bms canbus error.
I connect directly to the bms.
Bms shows PACK IS Low!,  discharge=   8400000s uAH

Some questions:
I can modify from three to two modules in bms parameters?. And use the healthy cells of the third module connecting them in parallel to the cells of the other modules?
The bms canbus data error means that I have to change the bms?
Or just check that the connections between bms and obd are ok?

Sorry for traduction

I clean ...
I recovered ...
I returned ...
Trying to cheat the bms...

Bring the battery immediately outside your building, otherwise:

Good luck!

Yes Mac20vt, get someone who speaks perfect English to read this thread and explain it to you.  This is serious, please do not make any plans to try to fix your 2012 ZF9.  This bike will be set for demolition by Zero soon.  You will be compensated for it, with also an incentive to get a newer bike that has potted batteries (so they will never corrode) and also has a new motor design with an IPM rotor if you get a Zero 2016 and newer, so both of the problems you have experienced you won't have anymore.

Have your English speaking friend read this link to you here:
