Add Kymco to the list of major manufacturers building an electric motorcycles.  We already knew about Sanyang (SYM) and Yamaha.

He said that Taiwan's three major motorcycle makers -- Yamaha, Kymco and Sanyang -- will begin to market lithium battery-powered motorcycles between June and July next year. Recharging of the batteries will require removing them from the vehicle and plugging

100 K units by 2012!  Wow.

According to Tseng, with the subsidy program as an incentive for eco-friendly transportation, the IDB hopes to increase the number of electric motorcycles in Taiwan to 8,000 in 2009, and to 100,000 by the end of 2012.

So Kymco beats BMW to the market with an electric scooter?  That caught my eye, as Kymco makes BMW's scooter engines and maybe other parts for their two scooters.  BMW has been designing/engineering/developing and promoting their new electric scooter prototype for the past few years and I am still waiting to see one on the showroom floor - although I am not sure that the shop's sales people are as enthusiastic about selling the e-scooter.  (From various comments that they have made to me they believe it will be a sales-dud in the U.S.)

BMW got 2 times alot of subvention for developing an e-scooter, personally I don't believe they are interested to sell one!

Interesting thoughts. Maybe BMW wants Kymco to test the demand first.
