dragbike road bike

Hi from mark
I am trying to build a dragbike to eventually be a road bike

I was hoping to use a 600 sports bike as a roller as this would meet the needs
of what i am trying to achieve

Those being

A motorcycle than can run better than a 12 second quarter mile

Any help or ideas with advice to engines ,controllers etc would be greatly appreciated

i have a lot of experience with ice engines and racing motorcycles not much with electric motors

Hi Mark,

You should spend some time on the endless sphere forum and maybe cut your teeth on some push bike based projects first.  To get a 600 chassis to do a sub 12 second 1/4 mile you will need to be running a motor at high voltages that will be dangerous in experienced hands.  It will also be very expensive!  I don't want to put you off the hobby but you really need to start small and work up.

Endless Sphere is (for the most part) lower power bicycle stuff......I'd head over to DIYElectricCar as they deal with higher power stuff.... and if you want more motorcycle centric help.... go to elmoto.net

I'd say look into Zilla and Evnetics Soliton controllers with a large Series wound motor and get the best lithium you can afford.

Look at the Lawless and Killacycle motorcycles. Large controller, Large series wound motor and a high power pack. Look at NEDRA and find some other drag bikes and research them. Series wound motors are great for high torque applications like this.

I HAD ALREADY LOOKED AT NADRA
YES I WAS THINKING ZILLA MANZANITA MICRO AND ELECTRIC MOTORSPORTS EV PARTS

MY CURRENT BIKE IS A MODIFIED ZX14 SO I WAS HOPING NOT TO GIVE TOO MUCH UP

warp 9 impulse motor ?
Yes I am thinking budget 20 grand
gsxr1000 might be a better platform option if i cant make it fir in the small bike,
more battery power
Any ideas on a powerpak reliable high end builder ?

Thanks for your advice and help both of you NoiseBoy and frodus
I am currently doing more research and hope to travel to the usa soon
There is pretty much no ev tech here in australia only at university level
i know i need a bit more of a base with this project in mind and  drive system etc
 The plan is to attend some nedra events and school myself up a bit
battery packs and a few other concerns i have.
A gixer  1000 engine weighs around 80 kgs  x2.2 for pounds but i am a light weight at 64 kg so i am thinking this would be a better platform also springs are usually way to heavy for my weight so should balance nicely with the batt and warp 9 though  the racetech susspension guy i use already can sort that
This bike will be one hell of a cafe racer lol

Back to the lab again
I think it would be way better to use a axial flux motor although i have heard of some pretty serious costings for a yasa motor and controller if anyone can tell me a alternative or has any other ideas feel free to reply
I have also read that controllers and other electronic components are not that reliable
mainly because of poor production on low volume parts.

For now I am going to develop a series wound motored bike using a hand built frame so I can make all the parts fit better
I am hoping I do not run into too many problems with the australian design rules as this needs to be a road registered bike(any help here would be appreciated )
I think lipo would be the obvious choice for a batt
Has anyone given any thought to a cold charging system?
