I really love this bike, but come on - one zip close case ? I dont know who came out with this idea... I took one month for the zipper to break - i'll probably have it modify with some velcro...

Simple, get it replaced under warranty. Only way zero will change design, is if they get many warraty returns and complaints. Yours could be just faulty zip.

Can zip be padlocked like luggage zips?

I would prefer hard lockable case design or expandable zip case like r-jays expandable explorer pack.

Answer: yes, at least the zipper pull tab can be padlocked to the keyed lock that keeps the tank bag in place.


A hard lock cover for the area would be interesting (if it fit a helmet which it couldn't), but the bag does make a reasonably good removable box for lunch or clothes. Very few tank bags are securely lockable - zippers just aren't that secure, and any thief can cut through the soft material. But what's the chance of that? I doubt most thieves would even have a remote idea for the next few years that these bikes even have bags.


I'm not sure how the zipper would break, but zippers are fixable. The bag cover can be detached entirely.


I did buy hard lockable cases, of course. But I paid quite the price for that security/waterproofing/convenience.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for someone to design, manufacture and sell a larger and more durable drop-in insert for the tank compartment.  If it stuck out of the tank like a motorcycle tank bag that would be fine and if you were concerned about security, the bag could have a handle and you could just lift it off the bike and carry it with you.  The fabric zippered cover could remain for weather protection when the tank bag wasn't being used.

I use my storage for soft drink refills, glasses, cell phone, newspaper, etc. which means I use it at least 2X a day and find it one of the ingenious design features about the bike. I never take the case out completely, just zip it part way so the lid doesn't flap in the wind, but no problems so far. Thinking ahead, if after warranty, the zipper failed, it really shouldn't be an expensive item to replace or repair. I really only worry about the major components that will cost well over $1,000 to replace or repair...battery, motor, controller. BTW, you could put an extension cord in there or a tool case, tire repair kit, flashlight, maps, lunch, etc. in that compartment.

I looked at a demo 2013 S at my nearest dealer last week. The storage was larger than I was expecting. They were using the storage to store the extension cord.

Yes there probably was a defect. Also i'll block the zip so that it never goes to the end of ziplock.
