185 miles on a single charge
« on: February 18, 2013, 05:15:40 AM »

Terry (offthegrid) has installed some new "saddlebags" on his 2012 Zero S and has been riding around the Santa Cruz Mountains and along the Pacific Coast, north of Santa Cruz. He recently posted on his Facebook page that he was able to travel 185 miles on a single charge.  He believes that may be a new distance record for an electric motorcycle.

Are those "saddlebags" full of batteries?

You guessed it.  Terry is now carrying around 15.3 kWh of available electrons.   ;D

I think these battery are some of the ZF3 packs he added  on each side.

Terry how much weight of battery added do you have?

I saw couples of pictures on his facebook.

On my side i'm adding 100km range on my DS 2011 ( 5kWh of LiFePO4 A123 cells) from my DIY pack project. Will do 160 real km 50% city 50% highway a total of 8kWh usable... or 9.3kWh of "zero calculation with full volt time full capacity"

Congrat for the record Terry!

*nit pick*

He has 65.7V nominal 200AH = 13140 Wh.

Adding the extra batteries also makes his fast charging gentler on the batteries. 7 kW charging now is about 0.5C, which should keep them happier in the long run. Or free him up to add more chargers .. he's already maxing out 1 30A J1772 connector, so either he could add a 2nd connector or hope to find a 40-50A J1772 plug.
