Schottky Diode

When I was playing with r/c cars there was a Schottky Diode between the positive and negative terminal an the electric motor. It was used to prevent back flow of current to the esc. Does anyone use these on electric motorcycles? Any thoughts?

They don't need one. There's a freewheeling diode inside of the controller.
