  Does anybody run them here? They sound really good from what I've read but I'm sure there's got to be some drawbacks. Anyone have more info on them?.

whats the cost like? my guess is that'd be the main drawback! Haven't heard of anybody running them in bikes.

I've tried running them.  Couple of problems including cost, energy density and internal resistance.  Your money is better spent on better batteries.

It seems as though they would be perfect for regenerative braking energy storage?, I wonder what the Formula 1 boys are using for their KERS systems?

They might use supercaps, but realize this, you don't want a ton of regen in a motorcycle. Most of your braking is on the front wheel. If you regen through the motor, the rear could break traction and cause you to loose control....

and most of the currents we're talking for regen on a motorcycle, most lithium batteries can take it

Supercaps are expensive for the amount of energy storage you'd use them for, and they need BMS as well, to ensure each one in the string isn't overcharged.

You brought up some interesting points, do hub motors have regen? if so it would be good to have a front wheel one on a bike. Is it possible to hook up regular front brakes to regen? Is regen worth the bother, complication and expense? So it sounds like Supercaps aren't ready for prime time yet, too bad sounds like they've got the charging and weight thing licked

Most hubmotors are BLDC motors, so yes, they have regen. I would think it'd be possible to put one on the front, but they're heavier and it'l effect handling and suspension.
