Zero to release new Charger Firmware
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:11:58 AM »

Zero motorcycles will soon be sending owners a USB programing device to update the firmware on all Zero provided chargers. Look for an email soon with details.  Unknown if we have to return the programmer after use, I would guess we will have to ship it back. I'm going to take my charger and pack to zero so I wont be doing the update myself.

I hope this corrects the spiking the charger does. It can ramp up a little too fast when the batt is 80%, Well thats what I've seen. I still don't know details of how the charge curve will change.

I just got the below the other day....It looks like Zero is now going to exchange chargers, and not have the end user re-program them. I just want to say how good Zero has been in upgrades/replacements of parts.

Dear Zero Motorcycle customer,

It has come to our attention that the charger for your Zero MX or X motorcycle many not be operating to its maximum efficiency. In extreme cases the charger may increase the chances of complete battery failure. We are sending you an upgraded 2011 charger for your ZERO motorcycle. This charger allows your battery to be charged from a lower voltage, another feature of the new software revision is that every 24 hours, your charger will turn on and make sure that your battery is kept to the optimum voltage.

Included with your charger will be a return label so we can get your old charger back. Once you've received your new charger, pack the old one up and deliver it via UPS ground immediately using the enclosed return label.

Interesting, thanks for the updates.

Wonder if bikes that sit for a long time were having battery issues.

Might have just been a bad batch that had the wrong programing. My charger never has had a finished "green" light, if I keep it always on it spikes the pack.
