Just Zeros
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:39:56 AM »

My name is Brandon Glanville and I am the independent rep and service rep for Zero Motorcycles in Idaho.  I have been watching this site for quite a while now and felt this would be a good time to introduce myself.  I have been in the motorcycle industry for over 10 years now in various capacities and as the parts manager at the local shop for the past 5.  One thing that I noticed about the Zero product line right away was a general lack of any shared standard parts from the motorcycle industry.  Understandable in many cases as weight is certainly a big issue as are scales of economy.  The cost for components like Showa suspension, Brembo brakes, and Excel wheel sets are a lot different for Suzuki buying tens of thousands at a time vs. Zero's couple of hundred.  I think  they have put together a very cohesive package given the realities they face.

My solution was to build a website providing Zero riders a source for parts and accessories.  Keep in mind that I am a working guy and I have put this together with what cash i had stashed away (a little left over from motocross season last year).  So I don't have a huge line up, but I am adding to it all the time.  My first accessory that is in production is a bracket that allows you to mount a high performance foot peg to the Zero X and Zero MX.  I have a custom foot peg kit from the guys at Fastway as well.  It allows the peg to be mounted in the stock position or in a 'Low Boy' position.  The low boy is sweet because it drops the overall mass of the rider and helps plant the bike.  I should be getting the DS in a couple of weeks so I can start working on some ideas for the S/DS soon.  I have also added as many of the consumable parts as I can afford at this time.  Zero and I are working on an agreement to provide some of those parts.

As I mentioned, I am a working stiff so I can't take calls while at work all day so I have purposely left my phone number off the site... but please feel free to email me with any questions, comments, and ideas.  I'm very interested in what you have to say.  You can reach me at  brandon@justzeros.com  or the contact page on the Just Zeros site.    I'm very excited about the future of Zero and hope I can help you guys get more out of your bikes.

Great site and I'll tell the other owners I know. I wished Zero would get some tools listed on its site. A tool kits is needed bad for new Zero owners.

Thanks guys!  I actually just started digging into the tool kit idea this week.  A fellow Zero X owner that purchased a set of the foot pegs mentioned the difficulty he had finding even a 7mm hex key.  I had not even thought about it.  I take for granted that I have a shop and all the tools imaginable available to me.  To that end, I am working on a Zero X and Zero MX specific tool kit.  Once my DS is here, I'll work on a kit for the S/DS chassis.  It's actually harder than you might think to find some of the obscure sized tools that the Zero needs.

Again, anything I can do to help or any questions, comments, and ideas...  bring it on!  I'm all ears.  brandon@justzeros.com

Video tips would be nice as well. Such as how to Adj. chain its best to remove the foot peg so you can use a socket and hex.

I'd want a tool kit just so I dont have to take them from my norm tools when I go out.

I like the video tips and tricks idea.  Now I need to add videography to the resume.  Thanks a lot!  ;)  I'll have to look into this though.  It may not happen right away but I think it's worth working towards.

Any video guys out there that could get me pointed in the right direction?  Simple camera and editing resources?

The foot pegs look nice and tempting when I kill one of my stock ones. A kick stand mount would be nice to see, not sure how many X riders would use it but so far 90% of my rides are on the street. still looking for a good rear road tire under $50 bucks

Ahhhh, a kick stand. Well This is something I have been working on quite a bit actually. Probably the most asked for accessory yet. I have plowed an embarrassing amount of money into design and prototypes. I've tried several different mounting locations. Fold up types, insert types, etc. None of which have produced something I would spend my money on as a consumer. It boils down to the fact that the frame is so small and THIN, there is nowhere to tuck it out of the way. Your either standing on it or it's just dangerous. I have to shelve it for now.

A rear road tire under $50 will be tough no matter the brand or nationality. Plus the X/MX has such unusual rear sizing that it's just plain hard to find many options at all. The 3.5 x 17" is roughly a 100/90-17. That's even small for a front street tire. I'll be certain to share what I find as I find new products that work.

I'm grateful for the dialog however. Gives me a better idea what folks really want/need.

Plugs for the rear swing arm tube for turning it into a little tool holder would be cool too. Can use a plumbing pipe plug as base and make a nice wing nutt for it.

I like that. I'll dig into it. Might even stop off at the plumbing supply house tomorrow and see what's possible.

I've tried using those plugs with similar intent but there are a couple of problems.

1.  Finding the right diameter plug
2.  Plug has a lip that keeps the plug from being fully inserted into the pipe.  Since the cylindrical swingarm support isn't perfectly flat along the outside edge a bracket would have to be machined to match the shape.

My boys at Standard Plumbing in Hailey Idaho, sent me home with a few plugs to look at. I agree 100% that the plugs will not work. I have some ideas though.
