So far my daughter's original thin (14mm ?) Gates belt on her 2014 S is still hanging in there, even after several tire changes. As far as I know it has never been adjusted other than whatever happens when the rear wheel is replaced. It would seem to me that Zero picked up a batch of bad belts at one time in the past. Either that or they switched belt manufacturers and the quality control was not up to the Gate's standard.  ???
The older belts (2016 & before) often wear down without snapping. Be sure to check the condition of the belt and replace it before it starts to slip. It can get so worn down that it is as if you're in neutral.

Reading some posts and it reminded me of another tip.
I loosen the axle nut to reasonably loose, set the tension and alignment, then torque the axle nut back.
Torquing causes the tension to rise 6-8hz on the Gates app. I take this into consideration when setting the initial tightness.
IDK if that is an oddity that happens with just mine, with some, or with all the bikes.

This is exactly what I noticed with each change, or belt tension, it moves at the final tightening.
That's why I spend time on it, because I'm looking for perfection lol

See my reply number 12. It should be perfect on the very first try. Takes no time at all. Takes more time to check than it does to align the belt.

2014 DS on the second belt at about 33,000mi. First belt failed right after a tire change at around 12,000mi - I didn't verify the tension myself, and the shop clearly overtensioned it. Second belt I've installed myself, checked tension from time to time, and it has been strong for 20,000+ miles.

Very common for shops. They know belts need to be tighter than drivechains but they often overdo it.

And the Zero factory likes to over-torque everything. I wish they would at least look at their own specs.
