Experia undefined faults
« on: September 07, 2024, 09:50:57 PM »

Around 20% of the time, when I use the cruise control or reverse, the motor stops with an "undefined fault".

Since it takes four restarts for the motor symbol to clear, I ride with the motor symbol on the display more often than not.

And yesterday, for the first time, about a minute after a charge here,  I got on the highway and started to accelerate.  I did nothing else, and the motor died with an "undefined fault". First time this has happened while not doing anything such as pressing the cruise control.

Are others having such issues with their Experias?  Or is it just mine?  It has the latest V43 FW.  I had the same issues before the FW upgrade.

Mine has been pretty faultless since the V43 update...no issues to speak of.

I was hoping for the same, but if anything, I get more of these "undefined faults" since the update. But hard to say for sure when it's such an intermittent issue. But the update to 43 certainly did not help.

When I had the unexpected faults, the error codes would only show when i entered the diagnostic screen right after the fault, if i restarted the bike, no error codes would show. Do you have some codes when the error occurs for you ?

That is good info. I have always been in too much of a hurry to restart the bike after this happens, so I never checked for the codes without turning off the bike. The next time it happens, I will see if there are any codes.

I can probably do this at any time by using reverse several times in a row until I get the fault.

Unfortunately, I am now 100 miles away from my Experia.  I rode my Zero  DSR/X here yesterday. But in a few days, I will give that a try and see if any fault codes show. I didn't know they disappeared after the bike was shut down.

Thanks for that info. and I will post here what I get in perhaps four or five days.

The fault code itself will still be in memory but the light will disappear after the ignition is cycled.

I kinda figured it would be stored in memory, but is there a way for the average rider to retrieve it?

BTW, it seems "undefined fault" could really mean a bunch of defined faults.

Sometimes there are multiple faults that pop up, and the undefined is a 'default fault' that it is assigned if they cascade or it pops in and out too fast to log.

The log can be accessed but it can be a bit of a pita.

My experia does this, infrequently.  Usually after cruising along for a little bit, then at a stop light.  Click, undefined fault, no go.  turn off/on and it's cleared.  Multiple logs given to dealer, no feedback from Energica for over a year.

Internittents are difficult to troubleshoot. Especially when they are SW glitches, which these probably are and are very inconsistent. But the new FW didn't help. But what works well on most may not work well on a few.

I have had similar issues with my Tesla. They do an update and some functions on my car stop working correctly, but works fine on most of the other Teslas with the same year and model.

An example is when my backup camera stopped working right after a FW update. But it worked perfectly again after the next update.

But with the Experia, the new FW didn't help and now I am getting more of these undefined faults instead of less.
