What spools are you using on your Experia?
« on: July 08, 2024, 11:40:17 AM »

Hi everyone, what rear spools are you using on your Experia? Also, I know EONE and AF1 have Energica-specific spools but looking for anecdotal-evidenced alternatives because of shipping and other reasons.

Germany here. I have them from Kern-Stabi the same company I got the rear lifter from. I like them bc they also act as a crash pad.

If memory serves me well, you need spools for M8 thread and they should have a distance piece/spacer bc of the design of the swing arm. Universal spools e.g. from Amazon might not match.

I'm using the pitbull racing's 8mm spool, I ordered the version with the 0.6in spacer but I think I shortened it to about 0.3in. If I was to do it again, I'd probably aim for 0.4 or 0.5in.
You need some amount of standoff for these spools because there's a counterbore that requires a small diameter insert. Mine are short enough to fit, but the lifting fork can hit the swingarm when lifting from the side stand.

I actually got the stock spools and Energica branded stand as part of a run-out deal of free stuff with my bike. The stand and the spools don't quite line up right which makes getting it on the stand a bit of a juggling act and has resulted in a drop (you should see the empty paint can it fell on)

That's one thing I do NOT like about energica's stands are they are so touchy trying to get the bike onto.  They like to slip too and if you are getting the bike about straight up and down and it slips out of the fkn stand as you are trying to heft it, it's a coin toss whether it slaps back down on the kickstand or goes over.  Those plastic grabbers at the end im not too keen on either.  you have to tip the entire thing to get it to engage and it won't hold for shit, it likes to jump out and flex, it sucks when it's just you doing it.

IM looing at the other type of lifter where it has like the arms facing down that you get under, it might make it so that being aligned doesn't have to be so exact, on the spot stupidly precise with the lifter one wheel off the ground TRYING to align and it don't want to.

Despite the danger of repeating myself  ;)

I warmly recommend to use those one-armed lifters like from Pitbull (US) or Kern-Stabi (Europe).
Absolutely no problem putting your bike up safely without help. Worth every penny!

If The axles are the same as the Ribelle why use spools at all, I use a 3/8 pipe which fits perfectly in the axle, slide it in when needed, won't have spools sticking out.

Thank you for this idea!
Alone on the track, getting the bike up on stands can be a pain, especially with their lifter because it's such an intolerant pita.  Having a pipe in there might make it a lot easier as you just need to get it underneath it somewhere to lift and grab and are not fiddling with getting it exact while trying to balance the bike perfectly upright with one hand, with the wind trying to blow it over on the non kickstand side etc etc.

get it latched and then start lifting to get things aligned but still solidly hooked, then give it the final heft.   I need to try this !

The spools attach to the swingarm right? Sometimes when lifting the rear end it's because you want to do something with the rear wheel that requires the axle to be loosened or removed entirely.

Thats true when changing tires, but if you just want to heft it to put a tire warmer on it that should work well i am hoping.

However on another note, the spools are nice for tip overs, the bike hopefully lands more on them and not so much your fairings.  Now if you slide / hit hard enough you'll tear that bitch off im sure and have to ez tap it out or fiddle but if it saves minor body damage,... there is that.
