Hollywood Electrics Closing
« on: September 19, 2023, 06:42:11 AM »

I heard that Hollywood Electrics, the original Zero-only dealer in LA, is closing its doors. This is clipped out from their FB posting. Very inconvenient for me since Hollywood Electrics is only 15 min from my house! Truly a sad day...

-----------------------------
All Good Things Must Come to an End

After 14 years of Hollywood Electrics, the time has come to pursue new opportunities and face new challenges. Hollywood Electrics was the first shop of its kind when we opened in Los Angeles in 2009. We introduced the world to electric two-wheeled transportation, back when electric vehicles were still only considered a novelty. Today there are millions of EVs on the road and it won’t be long before they outnumber their internal combustion predecessors. It was exciting to be a part of such a world changing movement and we will never forget all the people and events that touched us on this journey.

Thank you to all our customers, partners, friends, and supporters. This is not goodbye, but simply closing a chapter. We are so grateful for the relationships we’ve made along the way and hope to keep in touch. As we start winding things down we encourage anyone who has any immediate service needs to reach out as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. If you are still on the fence about buying a Zero, we’ve still got new and used inventory left. Give us a call or send us an email for more details.

Enjoy the Ride,
Harlan

Is he moving his business elsewhere, (A common theme lately in California) or closing his doors for good and throwing in the towel?

It's a shame that there is nobody to take over, or that things have gotten so bad he can't stay viable anymore.  Any loss of an E- Icon hurts us all in the long run.

THIS right here is another thing that is going to be a huge thorn in the side of E bikes.  Where to get them fixed when they do break, which eventually all of them pretty much will.  Having to drive 200 miles and leave your bike for weeks at a dealer is just NOT fun.

From reading the message and having recently been in the shop, I think Harlan's just closing things down. It sounds like he may have another venture up his sleeve, but it didn't seem like it was going to be another electric motorcycle dealership.

He's getting out while the gettin's good.  He made his money and now its time to move on.  With one of the dealers having constant problems, that's not going to bode well for them.  With another moving all it's workings to the phillippines, there goes another one.  Now couple that with the current economy and yah, he's getting out while he still can Id say.

Tell him to move to Jacksonville Florida and open up an Energica shop.  He'd be more than welcome here and Florida ranks #2 I believe behind california for e bike / e vehicle density.

Has anyone here had their Zero serviced by Hollywood Electrics? Is it done in house or do they farm it out to a third party?

I tried to do business with them but it was challenging. I ended up buying at another CA dealer who was much more responsive and interested. So my experience is that they weren’t really into it or just weren’t organized. Also, Fulgora in orange is excellent. Very helpful guy.

Actually, I bought my SR from Fulgora too, but Hollywood Electrics did my service. Tyler installed my 6 kw on-board charger and recently changed my tires. Tyler's expertise on the Zero's is legendary!

Funny thing, I got the bike at Triumph/Zero in San Diego, not Fulgora.  But that dealer didn't have a lot of accessories, so I rode over to Fulgora who had it all.  They asked why I didn't buy from them, and I was confused.  I knew I looked at every 2023 for sale online in the Southwest.  Well, mystery solved, they didn't list it on their web site.  I'm a 58 year old millennial, I do not make phone calls.  If it's not online, if you don't want to make a deal by email, it doesn't exist.

I can't remember exactly what happened with Hollywood, but I know it was hard to get replies and I never got a real number from them, so I blew them off.

They probably didn't want to deal with you.  Most people don't like dealing with millennials and their constant special needs and requirements and tend to ignore them hoping they go away.   I didn't buy it here but I want YOU to take care of my problems for me.  Oh but I won't talk to you on the phone, you have to take more time out of your day and e mail me.  That rarely works anywhere, except maybe starbuxx.

LOL!  Well it worked with Triumph of San Diego, who got my money, and a super easy sale with no bullshit.  But it certainly doesn't "work" if you're trying to sell me added crap and hide some fees.

Great News! I just saw on the Zero website that MOTO WERKZ is now an official service center for Zero's in the Los Angeles area, located in the mid-Wilshire area, not far from the old Hollywood Electrics.

Tyler was the mechanic for Hollywood Electrics before they closed and will be working on bikes from his business. Tyler does great work and is a legend in his expertise on these bikes. It looks like I won't have to schlep my bike all the way to Alhambra or OC for service after all!

That is good news.  Anytime we can preserve good mechanics or places to keep our e bikes worked on is a good day in the e world.

Thought I would share here that I stopped by Tyler’s shop last week and he helped me out with my FXE. It had the old firmware that required a dealer to update to the latest version. Tyler had it updated in a few minutes and gave me some helpful guidance on how to wash the bike without getting water in places that can cause problems. I have been concerned about that due to all the horror stories. He was very welcoming and clearly a guy I can trust when my bike needs service. I found him thanks to this thread and I’m glad I did. Thanks to theoutsider for posting the information.
