The bikes software is buggy and I must say with the behaviour Energica shows on the Ribelle's software I have little faith they will fix it. Biggest discomfort is the clock setting - big issue to set the time, and when succeeding, it will go back to a random hour after key-off key-on >:(
I wonder if it is like Zero, has its own clock battery that can go dead.

I can confirm both :o.

At first the bike did not remember any setting, regardless if made in run or park mode. After 1,300km, so ca. 300km after the break in service, it suddenly remembered all settings and I was happily using C1/2/3 - the bike always remembered every setting. Even the consumption screen remembered my consumption of my previous ride and displayed the range calculated on that basis (yes I'm aware that many of you don't give a damn about that ;D). After 1,600km I got my battery swapped (U0112 error code) with a new one - and all recent behaviour even survived that.
Now I'm at km 8,600 and the old habits are back: Not remembering the custom ride modes and (different from when the bike was new) the consumption screen now always starts with displaying 86km range left :-[.

I'm at 1700 miles on mine and it still doesn't want to retain the settings no matter what I do, on, in run mode, kickstand up/down, sacrificing a chicken..

I've also seen the issue with trying to set the clock, it's really hit or miss to get it to set.  I've got it mostly there now, except for 12 hr format, 12-12:59 PM is displayed as AM... once I noticed that made more sense.

Don, the ExPee pulls all power from the battery, there is no backup battery. There are I believe three different power levels created by DC-DC converters. The dash gets a 9V supply.

Given how reliable my Ribelle has been I'm surprised and disappointed that the Experia has so many issues.
Please read carefully - all issues are minor. The bike still provides a riding fun I nether had before. Even knowing of all those bugs I wouldn’t hesitate and buy it again - and I guess this is the biggest praise that can be given!

Bugs and such are not uncommon for a first-year new model of any make.


The recalls (safety replated) and TSB's (Tech Service Bulletins, for other than safety related) for my 2013 (first year model) Triumph Trophy SE were ridiculous and one after the other. But Triumph did a great job fixing every one of them, even after the warranty period. Now it's a great bike. But they lost so much money on it, they decided to discontinue making this bike. 


I question if that was smart to discontinue it after they fixed all the bugs.


But from what I can tell, the new Zero DSR/X was done correctly on the first try. No bugs or other issues. At least none that I have yet discovered.

a parte questi problemini, di cui alcuni sorvolerei tranquillamente, come  il riscaldamento manopole,  non essendoci sulla  ds,  trovandomelo su un experia, non starei a  recriminare  se si puo regolare o no.
ma l? autonomia  di questa  moto  e del  dsr-x visto  che Don Tom li hai entrambi?
in autostrada  a  55 Mi/h  quante miglia percorri .... se  si "corre " a questas velocità ? ;D  , ancora a questa velocità massima  negli states ?  è dal 80" che non ci torno .

apart from these little problems, some of which I would easily ignore, such as the grip heating, since it doesn't have one on the ds, finding it on an experia, I wouldn't complain about whether it can be adjusted or not.
but there? autonomy of this bike and the DSR-X given that Don Tom you have both?
on the highway at 55 mph how many miles do you travel.... if you "run" at this speed? ;D, still at this maximum speed in the states? I haven't been back since 80".

55mph speed limit in 1980 was silly, today in the states one can pretty-much run 80mph without getting a ticket when 70mph is the posted limit.

I normally do not ride electric motorcycles when it is extra cold, so my heated grips get very little use. I like my Triumph Trophy SE for the extra cold weather, because it has heated grips as well as a heated seat. Also, my Harley is great for cold weather, Has the best heated grips I have seen on any bike. Six positions from rather cool to way too hot.

Hi all,
let‘s do an update with V43 now out in the wild.

  • Problem: Software - Scale/Unit on the consumption screen is missing? as shown in the printed manual on page 60ff.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: Apparently a SW bug and thus applies to all Experias with SW updated Jan 2023**
    Solution: Bug fix the SW
Update V43: Fixed. Units now present, however in metric settings the real reading is probably 10% of the displayed unit.
  • Problem: Clock time setting does not work as expected and described in manual. On the first attempt (=opening that menu first time after starting the bike), the hours disappear when being adjusted. On next attempt the hours show but can‘t be changed with the mode switch. Occasionally still the adjusted time is not saved and when leaving the settings/preferences, the old time setting remains. After countless several attempts including keying the bike off and on again several times, it „somehow“ finally works.  EXTREMELY ANNOYING, especially 2x a year with daylight saving adjustments.?
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: Apparently a SW bug and thus applies to all Experias
    Solution: Rework clock setting.
Update V43: Fixed completely.

  • Problem: SW Version is nowhere displayed. This is a discomfort as when reporting SW issues you can’t relate to the version.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: Missing SW feature, applies to all Experias
    Solution: Display the SW version, suggest to do that in the diagnostic menu.
Update V43: Fixed completely.

  • Problem: Heated handgrips level cannot be changed during driving. It is a big discomfort to stop, put the bike in park mode, enter the menu and change. Was same on older Energicas. This is however very annoying if compared to the fact that the User-ride modes C1-C3 can be re-programmed - which is much more distracting during riding.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: Missing SW feature, applies to all Experias
    Solution: Make it accessible during driving.
Update V43: Fixed completely. Can be modified during riding!

  • Problem: Sometimes, the display focus is still left unintentionally active in one of the display action areas. Subsequently, values are adjusted unintentionally for example when using indicators.?
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: Missing SW feature, applies to all Experias
    Solution: Please add function to disengage focus after 10sec of inactivity.
Update V43: Still present.

  • Problem: Temperature display is off by circa 5°C. Other riders report different off-sets. Unclear if this is a hardware-related problem; however a SW solution will fix it.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: Missing SW feature, applies to all Experias
    Solution: A menu setting to apply an off-set to that displayed value would help and avoid potential repair cost for Energica if more owners would claim this fault.
Update V43: not fixed - still present.

  • Problem: Energy regen level in main drive screen is either off or full/on - even if the applied regen is only very small (as controlled by the throttle). Values between 0% and 100% of the selected regen mapping are not shown. This is a cosmetic irritating problem. On the torque screen, the current torque/power values as shown - those numbers are changing sensitively according to the applied regen level. This shows that the numbers are available, they only need to be translated into the graph.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: SW bug or SW feature? Applies to all Experias
    ?Solution: Correct SW, make the display show the level analog to the applied regen level.
Update V43: not fixed - still present.

  • Problem: Performance Screen/Lean Angle „MAX Left“ on lower left side of screen shows „e“ instead of a value.? Clearly a SW bug.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: SW bug. Probably applies to all Experias
    Solution: Needs to be fixed.
Update V43: Fixed completely.

  • Problem: Engaging the CC while displaying the consumption screen will result in a mixed-up screen view for 3 seconds (CC speed confirmation popup design fits not with the consumption screen). Afterwards, it goes back to normal.?
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: SW bug. Probably applies to all Experias
    Solution: Fix SW. Before showing the pop-up, check what drive mode screen is used and use applicable pop-up.
Update V43: Fixed completely.


  • Problems: (I) User modes C1-C3 will not remember the settings after keying the bike off and starting it up for the next ride. (II) „Range left“ shows same number and consumption graph shows the same line when keying on the bike. During riding, the graph gets over-ridden by the current values and the range will re-adjust itself to realistic values. But all is lost when keying off the bike.
    Both issues were gone after circa 500km but re-appeared when the first 1,000km service was done. Currently at km 1,400 and waiting for those 1,500 to see if the issues again disappear.
    Bike: VIN0048
    Rating: SW bug. Probably applies to all Experias.
    Solution: Fix SW.
Update V43: Fixed completely.

I agree with this list.  One additional thing that was fixed, was frunk access.  You now have to be keyed "on" to get access.
