SR/S CANYON Mode Discrepancy
« on: September 25, 2023, 07:53:29 PM »

Recently I've noticed a discrepancy in the values reported on the Next Gen App for the CANYON mode.  After uninstalling the app and reinstalling the latest version (v2.8.0), the CANYON mode numbers in both the actual and demo modes of the app are as follows:

Max Speed          124mph
Power                  100%
Max Torque          100%
Neutral Regen      83%
Brake Regen         87%

According to Zero, these are the correct values.  However, if I create my own custom mode and make it active, the CANYON mode numbers in both the actual and demo modes change to:

Max Speed          75mph
Power                  90%
Max Torque          66%
Neutral Regen      100%
Brake Regen         66%

These values do not represent the actual mode, as based on road tests, the max speed is certainly well above 75 mph.  Has anyone else seen this problem?  Zero seems stumped (not unusual).

I think the mistake is in their own printed specs giving numbers for the incorrect mode.  In my DSR/X canyon mode is supposed to be the same as Sport Mode but with a lot more regen.

From my DSR/X owner's manual:

"The CANYON mode selection allows the motorcycle to accelerate
at the same rate as the SPORT ride mode, but provides an
increased amount of regenerative braking when the throttle is
released. The CANYON riding screen features dark orange
accented color."

The same mode description is in my SR/S Owner's manual.   As best I can tell, the first set of numbers I posted describe what I feel when I select the CANYON mode.  I'm simply wondering where the second set of numbers come from and if anyone else can duplicate my observation.

This is what I have. It’s odd also that canyon has street mode traction control. Also odd that the sport mode actually turns down regen when braking. I haven’t spent a lot of time messing with modes and hadn’t noticed. It’s impossible to do that in a custome mode.

Also it looks like you can only activate one custom mode at a time, and it always replaces canyon mode?

Correct.  CANYON mode is considered a "custom" mode, although it cannot be edited.

This is all strange to me, and pretty annoying.  I've worked in software and UIs for a long time, this is a great example of doing it all wrong.

It was even worse with "CANYON" a while back where it limited some people's speed to 104mph. ( Including my SRS ) Any custom mode made to try to get the full speed would revert to 104mph. Eventually they sorted it out with firmware revisions and the app revisions. For about six months I was stuck with what basically is "STANDARD" mode and was pissed about it every day I rode it.

An interesting thing I noticed while trying to solve that back then was on my android phone, the app max speed slider went to 127mph. When I tried using my daughters Iphone to fix the problem, installing the app on her phone and pairing it, the app max speed slider went to 124. Weird, right? Iphone people have to go slower?

Anyway after they sorted it all out as I said with firmware and app updates, the new app revision on my same android phone (S10) only allowed the max speed slider to go to 124. I was a little disappointed. But it was close enough.

A couple months ago I dropped that phone in water and had to get a new one. I got the Samsung S21FE. I put the app on that phone and now the slider allows 127mph!

This does matter because as the bike approaches the limit it starts to slow. So this allows more power applied at high speeds.

I'm just saying this because I noticed you said 124 in your post.

The max speed was 124 on a 2020 that I rented in March with then-current firmware, and 127 on my 2023.  Same exact phone.  But there was a clear and obvious difference in bike firmware.
