My Charger finally showed up
« on: August 16, 2023, 10:13:36 PM »

Yay!!  I now have a 30 KW DC fast charger for my bike.
Hopefully I'll have it wired in in a day or so and have the bike driven down so I can get a good test run off it.
Track day is gonna be a whole lot more fun now!

I had it custom built, it takes 240 mains in to run it.  So,  you can run it, pretty much anywhere!

Another nice thing is it's fully scalable so lets say you only got 30 amp available, you can tell the thing to back down the kw, so it's not always just wanting to go 100 percent you can tailor it to suit your needs.

Wait what, it takes 230V? So just a 3x230V system? The ones I've seen all required 3x400V...

no not 3x 240 volt  just single phase 240 vac like you will find in any USA household.  I have it breakered at about 125 amps which will be plenty for what it needs to do.

Ive been under the weather here with this flu crud that's going around but getting better and starting to tinker again so hoping in a day or so I got power to it and give it a test shot on the bike.

Alrighty, I got the beast wired up.  I turned it on, it initialized and the fan kicked on.
I plugged it into the bike, it sat there for about 30 seconds doing nothing I assumed, turns out it was talking to the bike.
Next thing I know I hear a click and the fucking lights dim!  The fan ramps up and this beast is putting 18 KW of DC fast charge into my bike!

Holy crap this thing is a monster and totally awesome!
Ill have to make a quick video or something for ya'all

Upon playing around with this charger, it is VERY versatile, it'll ramp up or down to where you need.  Typically it goes in  5 amp increments until you get down into single digits then it will go as low as just giving you 1 amp of charging current!

Lets say track day is here and I bring this to the track with me.  If I plug the bike into the 30 amp AC, I get my 3.6 KW of charge which is the 13 to 15 amps AC it will give you.  Now if I plug this beast in even if I neuter it to just what the 30 amp breaker can handle, im still getting 6 to 7 KW of power INTO the bike .vs. 3.6 running ac.  Yes it IS a significant difference, it's almost double the power making it to the battery.  I am going to have to build a bleem box with multiple plugs to use as a master so you can piggy back off multiple outlets if they are available, but also be phase sensing in case something is swapped / is a 3 phase feed, or you got Y .vs. Delta issues, then you'd have to transformer it to match phase.   Dammit,  too excited here I need to calm down and just play with this for now hehe.

Aaron

PS what's even more fun is when I feed the bitch totally JUST from my solar panels.  I got about 10kw of solar, Ill have to mook around with that and also see if I can score a deal on some more bad panels to fix and put into comission for free Jooce!!
