that little black box is probably a relay for them, did you hook the wires up properly to it?
If it's that hot there is a problem.  can you test it for continuity.  The coil side should have some resistance to it, maybe a few 100 ohms,  the other side should be open when it is off and pretty much zero ohms when the thing is powered on.

Being that hot, there probably is some damage to it, Id get a new one from the manu, that one sounds defective.

If it is a mechanical relay, and the armature is stuck / frozen, that could cause that kind of heat, as it's got all that current trying to pull the thing in and it's not moving.  The thing is already broke so this can't really make it worse, try smacking it with something, not enough to crush it or bust it open but some percussive maintenance, maybe can shake something loose if it's stuck?   Id still get a new one, that one IS bad.

Yes, Ill see what more I can find out about it. It came with the grips and I installed it per the instructions. I have emailed Energica and maybe they can send me just that relay.

ED06D5 is a solid state relay w/ protection diode on output terminals, if power and heater grip circuit get transposed the protection diode conducts.

Make sure 12VDC power is on terminal (3) (shown as terminal (3+) in part data sheet) and load is on terminal (4).

Instructions are correct - terminal-4 labeled "Power" SB called "Switched Power".

Has anyone tried to power heated gloves through this j109 plug ?
I wonder if the 12V from the J109 is available without the heated glove option?

My Ribelle does not have the heated grips option ( menu greyed out) and anyway, I found like others heated gloves as more efficient but

J-109a will not output 12V unless it is enabled in software.
Fuse #6 (10A) provides power to both the USB port and the factory heated grips. You can tap into this 12V supply to power 3rd party grips.

Your 300 volt to 12 volt converter on the bike.
What is it's Rated amps max it can put out?

so like if I wanted to add, say a 100 watt or 120 watt device to the bike, tap it and run a separate fuse for that device, could the 12 v converter handle that?

I went over by 2 amps to error on the safe side of the thing.  I have not metered it yet to see what it actually pulls.  This of course can / will vary by the exact voltage the converter puts out as well. 15 amps would be ideal, 10 may work, but be close.  But if the thing is only good for 7 or 8 amps, then not so much, unless you have a short term overload scale on it.  Also, if it pulls say 9.3 amps on a 10 amp fuse, the cold inrush might be enough to pop the fuse after a few runs too.
