I don't think that's possible since Parking Mode is selected through the dash and the old firmware doesn't display that option.

Since the display only displays (not a touch screen), I would not exclude the possibility of new functions being directly actionable in the MBB firmware by the dealer. "PARKING MODE" would need to be selected ON/OFF using handlebar buttons. "10% FASTER CHARGE" and "10% EXTENDED RANGE" definitely do not require anything in the display to properly work. Regarding the "PARKING MODE" (reverse), it might be useful to see an "R" in the dash before drag racing when the light turns green. "ON-DASH NAVIGATION" definitely will need a new display firmware.

[...] My dealer, Davant in UK, has agreed to roll it back to the previous  version software next week.

Was it done, did it work? When I last asked, my local dealer said that downgrading was not possible. I really would much prefer having the original, much more useful, and readable, UX version.

If not, then I assume this no-way-back strategy could be related to the new Cypher functions which are going to need the new UX, and Zero wants us to be able to use the Cypher store, at some future point.

Hi Zelidar, just called my dealer (Davant, UK) to arrange the display roll back, was told zero have sent him an old dash to install as rollback isn't possible..  So you were right, but wrong.

So I'm OK, but I'm having to forget the parking reverse until they've sorted out the duff Wh/mile. Wonder if others make a fuss and ask for old dashes might make zero pay attention?

For me, most serious question is how do I tell the difference between Battery, System management and Dash software versions, so I don't update the wrong thing.  Actually I'm just going to ignore ALL updates :-)

Easy, you can't update the dash yourself. So no worries there.

If you end up with a spare dash then it would be interesting to take a look at it. If the microcontroller is something reasonable it could be possible to write our own dash firmware.

I decided to give the latest firmware a chance. Kinda against my own better judgment, but available firmware updates make me do crazy things, like installing them.

To my surprise both the MBB and the BMS update went through without any issues.

What they do or what they are supposed to do I don't know. I read the release notes but they basically sound like politicians. Many words, zero content.

Bike back from UK dealer (DAVANT) with new (unupdated) dash.
Ive got back my SOC on the circle and a trip and Wh/trip that I actually believe has meaning.
Thanks be to someone at Zero. They must know their software is flaky???????
Im now on NO UPDATES OF ANYTHING FOR A LONG TIME  :-) .

I upgraded from version 19 of both BMS and Bike to 21 BMS and 26 Bike today with no issues (first time ever I was able to do both in one go!).  I lost my custom mode as expected.  I wonder if they ever plan to fix that?  I guess I'll stay with my old dash firmware (I like it).

I went for an update at my local dealer - the really helpful Spark Motos in Addlestone, UK. Not just the dash, but some firmware in the chargers and they fixed the cellular that has never worked from new.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the navigation to appear on the dash for mt journey home. It works fine in the Zero app on my phone, but displays nothing on the bike. I'll have a proper look at it this weekend. I hope I can get it working, becuase that was the only reason I let then hit the dash with the ugly stick...

do you know if your cellular connection failure was software or hardware??

The cellular failure must have been suggested because my dealers got on the phone to Zero and with their help fixed it with the diag4zero app.

My navigation worked today too. I was sceptical when they said it might settle in and the cellular modem could update itself over the air once it has been online for a bit. Maybe that was the case.

If you end up with a spare dash then it would be interesting to take a look at it. If the microcontroller is something reasonable it could be possible to write our own dash firmware.

About a year ago, my dash suddenly developed a nasty "blob" close to the center that forced me to replace it with a new one.
The original one was firmware 5.5 (if my memory serves me well) and the replacement is 6.5.

I briefly tried to open it to see what's inside but it was very hard and I didn't have time that day and put it aside --and forgot about it-- until today, when I read the quoted comment.
So, after a lot of careful work to open it without destroying it, I managed to get the attached front and back photos of the board.
The only other thing inside the case is a small board attached to the back of the display, that has the ribbon cable going to the board.

The board was functional when I replaced it but I am afraid a drill bit went a bit too far and went through the board itself as seen in the picture (lower-right quadrant on the front photo).
I got frustrated after a tedious and long cutting all-around the case in shallow passes to avoid damaging the components.

That thing is designed to be very difficult to open and this one being the first one I opened, was a challenge.
Now, I could open another one in 20 minutes with no damage: experience is everything.

If someone with the right skill-set could write the firmware needed for this board to display things nicely (as opposed to the non-sense currently coming from Zero) it would be so very wonderful!

Thanks for the pictures. It looks like a Renesas RH850/D1M1A automotive MCU, which is intended for instrument clusters.
Quote
The RH850/D1M microcontroller has up to 5 MB embedded flash, 3.5 MB embedded RAM and dedicated features for instrument clusters with middle or high level 2D drawing.
https://www.renesas.com/us/en/products/microcontrollers-microprocessors/rh850-automotive-mcus/rh850d1m-high-end-automotive-microcontrollers-instrument-cluster-supporting-basic-or-low-level-2d-drawing#overview

I don't have any experience with Renesas devices, but they don't look to be anything out of the ordinary. There are no obvious debug connections, but they may well be on the large central connector. The easiest way to do anything would be if Facomsa supply a dev kit, but I suspect they're only interested in talking to OEM companies. It should be possible to get a debugger and IDE from Renesas, although given the target market it's likely to be expensive.
