« on: April 14, 2022, 05:34:05 AM »

Rode the same route on back to back days on a 2021 SS9+ and an HD LW.
Distance according to google maps: 90 miles
HD: 90 miles
Energica: 100 miles

Discuss.

Energica speedo is about 10% too optimistic.

Are they not run off of exactly the same input though?

Exactly. If the speedo is off by 10%, then the odo will also be off by 10% I believe.

I've had other bikes that have an optimistic speedo as well. I think my old BMW was about 5-6%.

Usually not. I have heard many bikes that read above 5MPH at freeway speeds have spot on odometers. Probably depends on the make of bike.

Speedohealer - could it somehow work? Have no experience with it...

On the other hand being an electric bike it should be fixed or adjusted via softwareupdates. Perhaps a dealer should be able to adjust to each costumers preference. When/If buy one I will be asking my dealer about that.
For me there is simply less chance I drive/ride too fast if I know the speedo is 99% accurate. Had that in a few cars where I ran with wheels that had a slightly bigger circumference than standard.

So I decided to reset the trip meter on my GPS and test the accuracy of the odometer. By the time I got home from work the trip odometer on my Ribelle said 67.1 miles, my GPS said 65.9 miles so only a 1.2 mile difference.

Sounds like you just need to aim for the inside of the corners and you'll be spot on  ;D

Very likely the same numbers are used indeed. If you know where to look you'll notice that Energica knows excatly what the correct speed is and just applies 10% to the number you get on the dash.

I think there is a manufacturer's agreement about this speedo overread in Europe. It reduces the average speed of traffic to a few mph under the posted speed limits (psychology at work), and probably has a small but measurable effect on KSI rates and accidental convictions for speeding. Personally I'm not bothered by it at all, we've just all gotten used to it over the last 30 years which I think is all part of the master plan.

Contacted them more then a year ago and send the Energica schematics, the answer was that they could not provide a Speedohealer for a Energica
