App not finding bike
« on: May 09, 2022, 02:43:38 PM »

My Eva Ribelle 2022 is not found by my iPhone. I've tried the steps in the myenergica-pdf (preferences > connectivity > press on the address, press on the reset) but the bike doesn't show up in the Myenergica-app.  Then I turned the bike off and on again and tried searching for a new device in the bluetooth-settings of the iPhone but also no luck. The phone only finds my Sena and my OBD connector but not the bike's bluetooth.

Anything else I could try?

TIA!

You can try these steps in that order

first make sure no Energica shows up in Bluetooth in your device OS settings, so no pairing is done
Next kill MyEnergica app from running tasks
On bike go to settings and in connectivity use the reset option so the MAC address on top goes to 00:00:00:_
Open My Energica app again
MyEnergica app will start searching the moment you open it
If it goes into the failed state in the settings of the App pick the reset button at the bottom

Make sure not to pair other devices either, both the phone and the bike remember the MAC address and exchange these to verify that this is the trusted connection. Another phone shouldn't be able to connect.

Tried the steps to no avail. You mention that I shouldn't have anything Energica related in my bluetooth section, so that implies it should be visible when scanning bluetooth? Because I see nothing in the vincinity of the bike suggesting Energica, just the OBD that's in there. I'll try with an old Android I have laying around, see what that does.

Same results, the search times out. The phone is a Samsung Galaxy Edge 6 Plus which supports BT4.1 so should work. The other phone is an iPhone 12 pro max, also not seeing any BT. Next step I'll remove the OBD and see if that helps.

Can't remember if it should show in the Bluetooth menu or not. I know for the Bluetooth OBD dongles you can pair em on Android and on iOS you can use most as a BLE device without pairing. So these show up in the menu but shouldn't be paired to.

Since you have Android you can try if it works with my app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.hcpl.android.energica I've optimised the connection logic a bit.

It's just a side project so plenty of bugs to be found but it does work better for me than the MyEnergica app. Plus you get some extra fields that Energica is hiding.

Hey Hans,

Just checked, no go. Reset the bike's bluetooth info (The BT address was still all 00's but did it anyway), then tapped BLE in your app and start. Nothing was found, the logs show 'BLE scanning'  and after a while 'BLE - bluetooth scanning timed out.
When I removed the left panel to get the OBD out for testing, I noticed there are 2 connectors floating around (2.54mm spacing, 4-pin). One of them was for the 'heartbeat' leds in the top cover which are now working but the other is sort-of undefined. Do you know where the BT module is located? Might be some Italian dude forgot to connect a few things last week :P

If I press the reset on the BT setting on the bike, should it turn green to show it worked? Or is there no feedback when pressed?

The bluetooth icon on the bike will turn blue once the connection is established (and the gps one green when fix found). But other than that there is no feedback from the bike. Once you have connected a device once it should show the MAC in the settings menu instead of that default all 00 values.

On top of the inverter, the silver milled out block on top of the battery with cooling & HV leads, there are a few black boxes. The big one is the charge controller. Up front there should be smaller ones also. One is for the heated grips (if you have that option) and then another one is for the bluetooth. It should have a sticker on it with something like "hub".

If you want more details on the app error start with the app logs screen from the three dots menu. If you send me (PM or hans<AT>hcpl.be) that I can look into it.

Hans,

You had me at heated handgrips. Since I ordered them, and I can see the heating wires to the grips, they should work but also don't work. I'll take it to the dealer to have it looked at, looks like somebody forgot to plug in some wires somewhere. I can see a wire labelled 'hub' hanging loose on the left side.

Thanks for thinking along!
