I’m sure I’m not the only one that received this strange email from Zero that describes the release of version 2.2.6 of their NextGen app next month. I don’t think whomever wrote it understands what a hot fix is (plus why are they capitalizing “HotFix?”)

The remote query location tracking hasn’t worked for me in months, nor has push notifications about the bike for charging or impact. Hopefully this actually fixes some or all or it! Given the abysmal UX of the app and reliability of the telematics, there is very little chance I’ll buy anything from their Cypher store. They don’t have a great track record of quality. At least my bike is a blast to ride and hasn’t bricked too often.

Dear Zero Motorcycles Owner,

In our best efforts to provide an excellent service to all our owners, we are planning to perform a HotFix for the Zero Motorcycles NextGen App that will positively impact all existing Cypher III and Cypher III+ equipped motorcycles.

We’ve informed the structure of these improvements by assembling data from our own diagnostics as well as directly from owner and dealer feedback. We’re confident the update will deliver the transformational ride experience you expect. These updates will be performed for iOS and Android users via your mobile service provider’s network or any connected Wi-Fi network when they are made available on July 19, 2022.

The 2.2.6 NextGen App HotFix will achieve the following:
Resolve Remote Connect issues for iOS users.
Fix a bug where legal terms could not be accepted.
Resolve an issue where using a different email would falsely claim it is already used.
Fix ambient temperature displaying issues in Dashboard Settings.
Updating the app should take less than 10 minutes for most users and will become available through a notification on the NextGen App. Once the upgrade is completed, you may resume use of the app and enjoy your MY20-22 SR/F or SR/S or MY22 SR Zero Motorcycle.

We understand how much it means to be able to enjoy your ride, and we promise to do our best to complete this task perfectly in the shortest time possible. Thank you for your patience and for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Zero Motorcycles

I discussed the app with a Zero representative when they were here in Buffalo on their demo tour earlier this month.  I got lots of apologies and an explanation that the app isn't written by Zero; it's contracted out to a third party.  While that doesn't absolve Zero of their responsibility to ensure the app functions correctly, it certainly helps explain the many problems we've all seen.

What I'm wondering is why I have also received this email all do I have an FXS 2020, or would there be some changes planned to be introduced in this software also.

The present version is in the mean will (besides bugs) unchanged since xx years but the world has continued so it could use some extra’s. I have a “little” list of personal improvements with at the top:
a.   A kind of cruise control or a lowering of the maximum speed parameter in de custom setting (max speed in european cities in 20mph!, its killing my bankaccount >:()
b.   A parameter in de App with which one could indicate the internal charger to stop loading at a certain level. :)
c.   Avoid the bike to reset the hibernation timing in wintertime if you turn on the key (which is request to know the left over charge). Better would be to use the action of the red engine-kill switch ;)
