Diginow chargers - can I remove the on off switches?
« on: February 17, 2022, 07:21:36 PM »

Simple question. I'm about to install the 3 diginow pan charger and I"m 3D printing some mounting brackets for the j1772 ports. But I'm having a hard time figuring out a clean place to mount the switches. So I might extend the cables, but instead of extending the cables can I just eliminate the switches altogether? Just twist the cables together. Don't the chargers engage when the j1772 charger is plugged in?

Some of the Charging Stations will work even if the switches are already On when you connect to them, but some will not work unless there is a delay between plugin in and turning that switch On.

But with the diginow chargers I need the bike keyed on before the charging cycle will engage. So wouldn't this be good enough for the chargers?

If you're talking about the J1772 station enable, some stations aren't happy with the automatic connection attempt. The switch sends the signal to the CP line that tells the station "hi I'm a vehicle give me power". Some stations will be fine, some won't. Are you ok with that?

Nah, I'll leave them on and find some way to mount them. I just need to extend the cables now.

My solution was to put two of those https://www.amazon.com/Cylewet-Normally-Magnetic-Induction-Electromagnetic/dp/B071RYZ64N in parallel (for redundancy) on a small PCB board and heat-shrink with marine heat-shrink tube, and then use velcro to attach a small magnet to turn them On. If I need to get it to turn Off, I just remove the magnet.
