Author Topic: Is there a way to test the Zero-supplied charger for a 2020 SR/F?  (Read 390 times)

Mine will not charge the bike at all and the charge target is currently disabled.
When plugged in, it brings the console up and displays 0% charge and after a minute or so, turns off the console and is like nothing happened.
The red battery icon comes up after connecting the charger but I replaced this battery yesterday, as the original was down to 10 volts and it was over two years old already.
The new one came fully charged:I checked that before installing it.

The SoC is reading 0%. The bike has auto-disabled but the headlight, horn, blinkers, etc, all work fine.
I think the charge level is not 0% but something is causing it to read wrong (bike was at 70% or so when this all started)
I suspect the charger bit the dust but I don't know if there is a way to check it with a volt meter. I do get the change from 150 to 480 Ohms when pressing the lock release on the J1772 and the two pins in the connector.

Looks like this is going to be a dealer thing but thought to check and see if anyone has had a charger go bad in this fashion.

Try to reset the BMS and the MBB. The MBB may not let the charger to charge the battery if it believes that the voltage of the battery is to low. I the voltage is actually low, and not just a glitch, then you want to get it to a dealer as soon as possible, before the battery get damaged.

0% SOC usually indicates a BMS issue, or that the BMS is not responding/stuck in hibernate. It has nothing to do with charging. If the BMS is not awake/responding, the charger will not work as you described. Headlight horn and blinkers all run off 12V and are unrelated.

Resetting the BMS is a good start. If you're comfortable accessing it, reseating it(by disconnecting all the cables and reconnecting) can help. Otherwise you need a new one.

According to the dealer, the BMS bit the dust and must be replaced.
Waiting on the part to arrive and see if anything else got messed up.

The 0% charge was bogus though. The dealer said they got the BMS to work for a few minutes and it was showing the actual charge. Unfortunatelly, it only lasted a very short time and went down again.

This bike only has 2650 miles on it and never been left outside.
Charging has been done following best practices recommended on this forum and scheduled maintenance followed to the T.

Could be just bad luck but I don't  think I  would buy another Zero.
That BMS is probably very expensive and the cellular module quit working a few weeks ago too and  would also need replacement  once the  main problem is corrected.
