Finished the restoration of my 2017 FXS
« on: October 25, 2021, 11:31:37 PM »

About 7 months ago I bought this well used, 12,000 mile, 2017 FXS 6.5 modular.   Stored outdoors all its life.  Sometimes with a cover, sometimes not.  Ridden in FL rain.  Zero name and model designations were gone.   Plastics looked like a daycare Little Tikes Cozy Coupe that had been left outside for 4 years.  BMS in one battery was dead.   Charging was at times intermittent.

First issue was the battery BMS.   After 5+ weeks of chasing the local dealer to get with Zero and fix it, and Zero customer service helping expedite it, the BMS was replaced.

I added a rack to make the bike more useful in daily trips and errands.

After not being able to find any product to rejuvenate the plastics, I decided to prime and paint them.   I went with white as I thought that brightened up the bike.   My rattle can technique wasn't particularly good.   So eventually I stripped and sanded them plastics and found a place that would prime, paint and clearcoat them for $175.   Finally I decided to spring for the Zero and FXS designations from AF1.

I also got help on this board fixing the intermittent charging issue.

To the Zero rack I added a rack extension plate from these guys:  https://www.perunmoto.com/

And here it is

Enjoying the FXS so much, I decided to pick up a low miles used 2018 SR from a guy in NC.

Of the two, the FXS is hands down more fun to ride solo around town.  But my wife appreciates the seat on the SR much more than the FXS.

Thanks.   I actually considered using a S painted low front fender like a couple of KTMs I've owned but at $127 for a new fender, it wasn't worth it.
