MBB console login
« on: December 02, 2021, 02:06:23 PM »

Hello,
I tried poking around the MBB console on SR/S and to go the higher login one needs a password.
What can I do if I could login ? Why would this password be needed ?
I know one is accessory config that could be modified, another maybe odometer adjustment, wheel size adjustment, what else is there ? I don't mean stuff that could break the bike, I mean stuff that is needed and you had to visit dealer to sort it out.

What would be a proper way to publish the password but not making Zero angry enough to change it in the next firmware update ?
A text file spread through torrents? I think this forum is also read by people directly affiliated with the manufacturer.
They changed it once and will do it again.

Passwords on FST are numeric codes that are different for every bike and change at least once per day making sharing them close to useless. You'd have to crack the algorithm that makes them or bypass it somehow.

Logging in is needed or everything from pulling logs to updating FW, changing config options, changing the bike VI or odometer, motor comissioning, etc.

If I had the login data from a Russian friend. Is it legal to publish these login passwords ? Is this information under the "right to repair" law in the US ? I am based in Europe so the rules are a bit different here.
But I think a complete hacking tool that could unlock everything before they even released the software purchasable features would make some people at least angry.

It probably wouldn't bother the Russians or Chinese.  ;)  I know that Hexcode company, based in South Africa I believe, has managed to break BMW's firmware code and has produced a device called the GS-911 that can do many of things that a BMW shop computer can do when it comes to interrogating and in some cases altering their motorcycle's firmware to change minor items like dates, clear failure codes and delete service warnings. The have had their product on the market for a number of years without any legal consequences. I happen to have bought two of them over the years and the latest one gets updated several times a year via the internet to keep up with changes by BMW as they introduce new models with new firmware features.  :)

Is the "tool" login level enough ? I believe it is the level used by the mobile app. Another level is tech.

Reverse engineering and sharing passwords is legal. It's when people copy and share code or IP that they get in trouble.
