No room for passenger's feet on SR/S with SHAD SH36 side cases!?
« on: November 04, 2021, 04:30:14 AM »

Folks,

I have a 2021 SR/S about 2 months old. I bought the Shad SH36 side cases with the bike, and the dealer installed them. They're great... except for the fact that they're installed so far forward that there's no space for my passenger to place her feet! She either needs to go on tip-toe with her heels up and against the front of the case, or she needs to place the middle of her foot on the peg... not comfortable either way.

Does anybody else have this problem? Did my dealer install them too far forward? It looks to me like the mounting point on the back foot peg is fixed... so it's not the dealer's fault, it's Shad's (or Zero if the mount is from Zero.. I'm not sure who designed the mount).

Photos attached to give you an idea.

Is it possible that the cases are not symmetrical and if you swap them to the other sides they will be further back?

Yeah, looks tight on mine too. I don't know what to suggest - ask your dealer to drill holes and remount the passenger foot peg?

My solution is to not to know anyone who would want to ride on the back, which is a little extreme and not necessarily recommended.

There is only so much room to fit everything, the SR/S is not that long of a bike.
Accessories provided by a manufacturer need to conform to DOT requirements.
BMW had a massive recall related to this, their factory cases slightly obscured the reflectors on the license plate holder.

Can you post a side view of the rear 1/2 of the bike with the bag removed? Want to see what your options were for relocation or modifications.

One of the main reasons I never got the new BMW K1600GTL was that after a test ride, my late wife had NOTHING good to say about the passenger accommodations.  It seems BMW FORGOT everything they learned about building a luxury tourer after they discontinued the K1200LT.  Her second biggest complaint was that her feet were locked into a single position on the footpegs... she couldn't slide her feet back because her heels would bang against the saddle bags, and moving them forward ended up with her kicking me in the ankles.

From what I've been hearing about the build quality of modern BMW motorcycles, I'm grateful for that.  Still have the K1200LT and it looks like it'll run forever.  Anyway, my point is, Zero is not alone in this area.  Passengers seem to be an afterthought lately.  :'(
